LAKE OKEECHOBEE
The tributary watershed of Lake Okeechobee was diverted through canals to the Gulf and the Atlantic. These canals were at the head of a 1400-mile canal network in South Florida. The canals disrupted the water flow from Lake Okeechobee to the Florida bay via the Everglades. Severe floods in 1926 and 1928 prompted the construction of levees to surround the lake.
