On behalf of your fellow students, Welcome to the Open University! It may seem odd to look at the heading 'Student', and realize that this means you! You have taken a decision which will change your life and bring much joy, and challenge, and fulfilment. And yes, at times it will bring you frustration too. You will be getting a lot of information from the University about your courses and about what to expect, but the Open University Students' Association looks at things like you do, because we are students too, so, we'd like to give you the student's perspective. You've joined a quality institution: the OU is currently ranked in the top ten amongst UK universities, which is an astounding achievement for a university wholly based on distance-learning. Their high-quality, challenging courses require a significant amount of input on your part.
