GENESIS 1:7-8
7: Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.
8: And God called the firmament Heaven.
So the evening and the morning were the second day.
The division of waters is representative of another act of God in which He brings order from chaos. It involves a great and infinate wisdom to perform such feats as this.

Wisdom speaks of this in
Proverbs 8:27-29, "Whn He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep, 29When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth,

Wisdom is also known as Christ when He came to earth as the divine Word. Let's look at 1 Corinthians 1:24 where this statement can be confirmed. "but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God." We see this confirmed again in 1 Corinthians 1:30, "But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption--" Let's also look at Colossians 2:2-3, "that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all the riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

Again, for the purpose of our spiritual study, it is not important wether the creation account is in literal days, or thousand-year days. Well end this verse study with Psalm 148:4, "Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above the heavens!"

6: Then God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."

7-8: Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
9-10: Then God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together in one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
