| God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. |

| To name something in the ancient Middle East was a mark of lordship or power. From the very beginning of this study of Genesis, we see the sovereignty of God to which none can compare. Let's take a look at some references in Psalm to this verse. Psalm 74:16, The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun. Psalm 104:20, You make the darkness, and it is night, In which all the beasts of the forest creep about. Some feel that this marked the first of seven literal days of creation. Others believe a "day" represents a certain length of time, for example, one day equals a 1000 years. For the purpose of our study in the spiritual, we needn't be concerned which one applies. What's important is that we know it happened as God has expressed. |
