GENESIS 1:3-4
Then God said, "Let there be light; and there was light." 4: And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
"Let there be light." God spoke light, and light became. God's words have the power to get things done. We see this again in Psalm, By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. 9:For He spoke, and it was [done]; He commanded and it stood fast. Psalm 33:6, 9 (NKJV). He provided physical light as well as spiritual light which we receive through His Son Jesus Christ.

Our last verse
(2) stated that the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. Light overcomes darkness. God is light. Let's look again at Psalm, "You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens."  Psalm 104:2 (NLT).

In the book of Revelation, one of the elders is quoted as saying
, "The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp." Revelation 21:23 (NLT). Again, we see here that God is light; light which emanates from His glory. This will be the light that will light up the New Jerusalem!

It is the Light that leads us away from darkness. All living things require light to live. Light brings life. This shadows the true "light" which is Jesus Christ. We'll end this verse's study with the following passages:

"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God who's name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not the Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true light which gives light to every man coming into the world." John 1:4-9

Fot it is the God who commanded light to shing out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.  2 Corinthians 4:6

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.  Hebrews 11:3
