Bantry Bay is a inlet of the Altantic Ocean and has outstanding natural beauty.  The bay is 48 km long, 16 km at its broadest point and is one of the largest and deepest bays in Europe.  Bantry Bay is surrounded by mountains to the north we have the Beara Peninsula and to the south the Sheep's Head.  The Bay it self has good shelter for yachts and ships in bad weather.  There are many Island in Bantry Bay the largest is Bere Island which is used in the Irish Army training.   There is Garnish Island which is famous for its landscape gardens.  Garnish Island is in Glengarrif bay.  Then there is the lighthouse on Roancarrig which is Bantry Bay's only lighthouse.  Then there is Whiddy Island which holds Whiddy Island Oil Terminal.
