On this page, we will focus on some of the industries that exist on Osteroey. There are both well known and less well known companies located on the island. Local knowledge is essential to be able to find them all. The total number of industrial companies on Osteroey is around 300. In addition there are approximately 300 farms that are still active and contribute substantially to the local economy. Concerning many of the industries on the island, the spouse and other family members are also involved in the daily decisions to be made. The industry has gradually developed over a long period of time. Much of the industry in the old days was based on water as a resource either used directly in the production process or as a power source. wood work, casting and

mill and salt production in

manufacture/forging,

day there are a substantial
number of large and small
companies that is capable of
delivering products ranging
all the way from slippers
made from wool to steel products. One of the most well known companies on Osteroey is "Tysse Mekaniske Verksted A/S" which today is building trailers for cars, and a saw used to chop-up wood. Companies producing furniture are for example "Hanstvedt Moebelfabrikk", "Hatland Moebelfabrikk", and "HBH Moebler A/S". There are also many companies specializing within the metal processing industry. Among these are "Andr. Jacobsen AS (ANJA)", "Mjoes Metallvareindustry AS", "Lone Beslagfabrikk AS (LOBAS)", "John Solberg" (hardware factory), "K. Leroey Metallvareindustri AS", "Jakta Metall AS", etc. There are several locations where cultivation of salmon is taking place; for example "Ingard Lone Fiskeoppdrett AS" (Fish Farming), "Jakta AS", "Lone Oerret", and "Fossen AS", the last company is the largest company in Norway specializing in smoked and "gravet" salmon and trout. Within the textile industry there are companies such as "Norlaender AS" manufacture products ranging from knitted garments to underwear made of wool, "Revheim Ullverksted" makes slippers of wool, etc. As we have shown, Osteroey has a wide range of different kinds of industries and is almost self supported with respect to services from the economic activity on the island. Remember, the industries mentioned are only a small portion of the total number of industry located on the island. There are also hardware stores, construction companies, and other labor-intensive industries. Many of the industries on Osteroey, have each yearly revenues in the range of 50 to 100 million NOK.
