| 11. Legislation - Be a consistent lobbyist for the Osborne community at school board meetings - Be aware and communicate impending local, county, or state regulations that will affect the Osborne community to our stakeholders. We are so very humbled, honored, and proud to say that efforts in this area were recognized locally and at the state level. At most of the school board meetings during the past year, a representative stated the positivie things that were going on at Osborne and there are MANY. In addition, a Candidate Forum was put together in the Fall where candidates running for the State Senate and House of Representatives were present to answer questions from the students and the community at large. This proved to be very successful and our thanks to all of the people who participated in this event. In addition, voter registration applications were provided to each Senior Homeroom teacher to encourage students were 18 years of age by the November general election to register to vote. Meetings and conversations throughout the year were held with officials at the Cobb County School Office, Board of Education Members, and local elected officials to continue and enhance support for the Osborne Community. We were rewarded from Chairperson Laura Searcy of the Cobb County School Board for continuing to keep them apprised of the positive things at Osborne, and the Georgia PTA awarded our high school, R.L. Osborne, with the #1 Legislative Program in the entire state. Congratulations to the entire community. We hope to build on this success and enhance the tangible support from the legislative community in the upcoming year. 12. Membership - Strive to get a 100% PTSA membership this year - Be visible at Freshman orientation, staff preplanning -Work with Room Representatives to have a person in each homeroom during open house - Develop awards for the rooms that get 100% - Explore ways to fund appreciation for membership accomplishments - Develop a flyer to send home the first day of school indicating the privileges and benefits of PTSA membership - Post and maintain membership charts throughout the school - Handle all of the monies and cards associated with membership - Submit articles for each PTSA newslertter stating progress toward goal - Call new families and welcome them to the Osborne community. Several of these specific activities were accomplished resulting in almost doubling our memberhsip over the past year. However, it was far short of the 100% membership goal and toegether with new initiatives we will shoot for that goal this coming year. 13. PTSA Handbook and Newsletter Newsletter - To be issued at the beginning of the school year and in conjunction with each report card following Handbook - To be a booklet to serve as a yearly reference ruide for the parents, students and staff include ways to contact teachers/administration contact numbers for the PTSA officers/committee chairpersons, school board representatives, local political personnel - Proper ways to handle concerns with school situations - General rules for discipline, behavior, zero tolerance, attendence etc. - To be provided when joining PTSA Fell really short in this area. There was a newsletter that was distributed and a handbook that got populated with much, but not all of the information. Still needed and wanted by the community and will expend efforts to demonstrate improvements on this initiative in the coming year. 14. Hospitality - Coordinate various events throughtout the year to demonstrate a positive Osborne High School hospitable spirit - Look for occasions to celebrate - Explore ways to fund these activities. There were several things that were done this past year in this area. We hosted a breakfast and luncheon for the Cobb County High School Principals, provided a preplanning luncheon for the staff, provided tangible expressions for the staff during the year, recognized some specific individuals for over and above effort in their efforts to foster our students. There remain some ways that we can improve in this area this year. 15. Prom Night Party - Solicit ideas to have a party after prom ending with breakfast the following morning - Explore ways to fund this project - Advertise party - Coordinate activities associated with this project - Set a goal of 75% participation by students attending the prom to attend this party This intiative was explored and determined the interest was not sufficient to continue this past year. This will be looked at this year to see if interest is there. |
