Biography

Orlando was born on the 13th of January 1977 in Canterbury, England. He was first inspired whilst watching Superman, when he realised that Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) was just an actor - instead of this shattering his childhood fantasies, it inspired him to persue the same career. Following his dream he spent 2 years with the 'National Youth Theatre' and then went on to study at the 'Guildhall School of Music and Drama'. Upon graduating in 1993, he moved to London to improve his chances of getting work. His first tv appearance was on the BBC1 drama series "Casualty", but his first big break was when he had a cameo in the high-rated movie "Wilde" (1997) - he recieved various film/tv offers and he was still only 20 years old, his future was looking bright. Flattered by the amount of work available to him. Orlando turned them all down so he could follow his true passion, theatre. On stage, he has appeared in numerous plays such as "The Seagull", "Twelfth Night", and "Trojan Women".
When everything was going fine, Orlando was involved in an accident and it seriously injured him. He fell off a drain-pipe that was 3-floors high and broke his back, the doctors told him that he may never walk again. He was operated on, and about 12 days later he walked out of the hospital.
Just as he was getting settled into doing theatre work again he was "discovered" by "The Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson, and was asked to play the part of Faramir in the 3-part adaption of the classic J.R.R. Tolkien novel.
Orlando audtioned for Faramir but wasn't right for the part, but he was called back to read for the part of Legolas. He won the role and moved to New Zealand to film. Whilst he was there we got to do a lot of extreme sports, such as bungee jumping and sky diving.
Since then he has co-starred in the Ridley Scott action flick "Black Hawk Down" (2001/2) alongside "Pearl Harbour" star Josh Hartnett, and has co-starred with his real-life best pal Andr Schneider in the films "Chequered Past" (2002), and "Lullaby Of Clubland" (2002).
Most recently he was chosen to star alongside Aussie star Heath Ledger in another Aussie film called "Ned Kelly" (2003).
After winning over millions of fans after his role as Legolas, Orlando's career has certainly bloomed.
