"Bicho" attacks twice!!
Capucho FC Porto made their trip to Lisbon knowing they would face a tough oponent as Belenenses has not lost at home since the 1997 season when then the great Domingos beat the belem outfit. The game started well for Porto withNuno Capucho and Deco combining well on some fine touch passes, but Marco Aurelio denied Maniche on a early great chance set up byCapucho. These missed chances led to a shocking Belenenses goal by Verona. Porto kept attacking and looked to have the tying goal when Postiga was sent free against Belenenses keeper Marco Aurelio, who deflected the shot that went right onto Capucho with the open goal Capucho did the hardest thing and that is miss as his shot hit the post.

Mourinho decided to take Capucho off at halftime and go with Porto's new signing Marco Ferreira, tough Ferreira did not play well and simply tried to do too much every time he touched the ball, Porto did manage to score two goals. First two goals for Porto where scored by their captain Jorge Costa "bicho". The third goal was great magical work from playmaker Deco who passed it to see it finished by Alinetchev to make the score 3-1. Porto deserved this win as they dominated all game and always attacked and looked very dangerous. Porto has reason also to complain as they had two penalty kicks not called their way.

Porto who sit 11 points ahead of 2nd who lead with 48 points in the Super Liga while Benfica in second has 37 and Sporting sit third with 31 but had their game cancelled this week, due to alot of rain in Lisbon. The repeat with Academica is for Feb.5th. Porto 2,000 fans after the game where chanting "Campees" Champions!!! It sure looks like nobody can stop the great F.C Porto this season and the title looks to be theirs.

One is enough!(Porto 1-0 Sporting)
Capucho Now 14 points behind Sporting pratically said goodbye to "bi" The night Alvalade was painted in blue..
It was a full house at Alvalade, with many portistas making the trip, with over 4,000 fans chanting OLE Ole Ole Porto...

Porto got off to a great start right the whistle, on a Hugo error Postiga raced free and almost scored if it was not for a great Tiago save, who had many more left in him this night. Two minutes later Costinha pounced on a rebound from a shot by winger Capucho in the fourth minute. A spectacular scissor kick and Porto never looked back. In fact, Porto had a few other opportunities to score in the first half but the poor turf didn't allow for the Drages to add to their tally.

Nuno Capucho was involved in the first goal and was also very active during the game. Capucho also got very agressive and emotional a good sign to come if you are a Nuno Capucho and Porto fan, as he looks to be returning to his old form. In the 62nd minute Mourinho decided to sub Capucho for Clayton a move that many thought was an injustice because of Capucho's great play.
This game also was marked not only by Tiago robbing Porto of many chances to score, but also two penalty kicks not awarded to F.C Porto. This game ended with Porto winning 1-0 but the score could have been a easy 4-0 if not for Tiago. There was some trouble after the game involving police beating innocent Porto fans, witch some fans already expressed after taking legal action against the Sporting stadium security.

FC Porto coach Jose Mourinho said he was content with the result after stating earlier this week that he would have settled for a draw.
"A 1-0 win away win over the champions is a great result. It's our second successive away win so I feel that we have achieved a major aim" Mourinho said.

Porto who are unbeaten in 17 games, now sit on top of the Super Liga with 45 points and a 11 point lead over 2nd place Benfica and 14 point lead over 3rd place Sporting. Next match for Capucho and Porto is a Portugal Cup game against Gil Vicente, winner of that will face Vitoria Guimaraes next round. After they have a league game against Belenenses.

Discusting!!Vergonha!!
Porque? These shamefull acts have to STOP this time the people who are suppose to be protecting inoccent fans decided to go to far, as Porto fans after their 1-0 win in Lisbon where held inside the stadium for a long period of time, and if that was not bad enough inoccent fans where beaten by police officers who where there to provide their security. If these acts where not caught by TV cameras and you seen these images, this might have been another case in portuguese football that would be ignored, but folks this seems to be happening alot and has to come to an end. The guilty party's must pay for these crimes. When the people there to protect you are the ones also hurting you, then how safe is it to bring your young kids or family to watch a football game?
This is also the country that will be hosting Euro 2004 very soon. These police officers must be punished and same goes for the people behind the scenes that led to this shamefull outcome!! See more images on www.vergonha.com about this tragedy and also people's responses to what happend. Thank you to Super Drages for emailing me the link and also the use of of this image.

On other more positive news FC Porto beat Gil Vicente 2-1 in the Cup game and now advance to play Guimaraes next round. Nuno Capucho was not selected, as he has a minor nock on his knee and Mourinho gave him the rest,Capucho did train today and should be ready to face Belenenses this week.

Capucho: J estou a atingir a minha melhor forma

Vamos querer vencer a partida."

"Agora, estou a sentir-me melhor. Comecei mal a poca, mas isso so coisas que fazem parte do futebol. Agora j estou a atingir a minha melhor forma."

Capucho on target again...
Capucho The new year started well for F.C Porto as they crusied to a 3-0 win at Antas in front of 16,000+ who came out to support the blue and white, in a game marked by heavy rain pouring at times, but an excellent pitch still to play ball.

Nuno Capucho started where he left off in 2002, Mourinho selected him to start and again Capucho did not disapoint as he was excellent all game and just before halftime, Capucho on a great Porto attack, finished perfect on keeper Quim. It was a great chip shot over Quim the goal put Porto ahead 1-0 at the break, a true "chapu".

Capucho played all 90 minutes and was with Deco the two best players on the pitch. Deco also scored a beautifull goal and assisted on the other two. Porto's win gives them a 9 point lead over Benfica in the Super Liga.

Dani Mota co-Webmaster of Nuno Capucho Fan Site and me(Orlando) have created a new chant for Capucho. I hope all you fans like it here it is,"Ele o n 21, faz chapus com 1 p, melhor que o Z, o Capucho allez, Allez!!!". Check out the sites Video section for Capucho's latest goal video...

Capucho training and ready for Braga!
Capucho The new year hasent started well for Capucho you can even say it was a unhappy new year for Capucho. In 2002 we seen Capucho have many more downs then ups, and from the looks of 2003 early history might repeat itself.

Nuno Capucho did not have his new year celebrations go off as planned. The Dragoes #21 is hurting from a strained muscle in his abdomen. He joined Secretario and Paulinho Santos in the team clinic as the only Dragoes not training with the full team in the new year.
His status for Sundays SuperLiga game against SC Braga is unknown. The game will be played at Antas.

Capucho did train today with the squad after missing yesterday's practice because of the injury. Capucho today showed positive signs and may after all face Sp. Braga.

Porto Winter Champs!!
CapuchoLISBON (Reuters) - Porto triumphed 2-0 at neighbours Varzim on Sunday to extend their lead in the Portuguese premier league to six-points.

Porto, the only team unbeaten in the league, have 39 points after 15 matches. They are trailed by Benfica, held to a goalless draw at Boavista, with 33 points after 16 games.

Defending champion Sporting beat Nacional Madeira 2-0 and are third with 28 points after 15 matches.

Winger Nuno Capucho opened the scoring for Porto's seventh successive win with a header in the 21st minute following a right cross from Brazilian playmaker Deco Souza.

Varzim, this season's sensation with a fifth place showing, squandered two chances to level in the second half. Midfielder Francisco Costinha scored Porto's second goal with a header in the dying seconds of the game.
Porto assistant coach Antonio Andre said his side had played well despite the rough and wet Varzim pitch.

"We had an excellent first half, even with the field in poor conditions," he said. "We scored one goal and could have done more."
Capucho Natal
After four wins in his first four games as Benfica coach, former Spanish coach Jose Antonio Camacho got his first taste of frustration when he watched his side struggle to a goalless away draw with Boavista on Saturday.
In a tough match with several fouls, Benfica's goalkeeper Jose Moreira stood out with neat saves. Benfica has not won at Boavista since 1996.

"We defended well, but we didn't attack in the same way," Camacho said. "We lacked chances to score in part because of the strong and bold way that Boavista played."

Sporting bounced back from two straight losses with their 2-0 victory over Nacional Madeira. Striker Joao Pinto scored with a header in the 21st minute and again in the 58th minute.
League play will resume on January 5. Check out the sites Video section to see Nuno Capucho's goal against Varzim. The sites Gallery has also been updated, with many new Capucho pictures. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year/Feliz Natal e um bom Ano Novo/Nuno Capucho FanSite...

Jankauskas's late goal keeps Porto on top
CapuchoLISBON, Dec 17 (Reuters) - A last-minute goal by Lithuanian subsititute striker Edgaras Jankauskas gave Porto a 2-1 home win over Pacos Ferreira to keep their four-point lead at the top of the Portuguese premiership on Monday. The only unbeaten team in the league, Porto are top of the table after the weekend's matches with 36 points from 14 games, while Benfica are second on 32 points, having played one more game.

Striker Helder Postiga took advantage of a sleepy Pacos Ferreira defence, which stopped play to make an unsuccessful appeal for offside, and opened the scoring for Porto after half an hour.
Pacos Ferreira leveled the score shortly before the hour when a 30-metre free kick by Brazilian midfielder Beto Santos was deflected by the Porto wall and caught international goalkeeper Vitor Baia off guard.

Jankauskas headed home the winner from close range in a goalmouth scramble a minute from time. Pacos Ferreira players made an unsuccessful appeal for handball which was turned down by the referee.

Porto assistant trainer Rui Faria angrily rejected charges his team had been favoured by poor refereeing decisions. 'I would like to point out that we conceded a goal from a free kick given for a non-existent foul. Our team put up with that and went through mental and physical fatigue, but managed to respond to every one and everything,' he said after the game.(soccernet). Nuno Capucho came on as a sub in the 81st minute tough he only played 9 minutes he was involved in the winning goal. Porto now prepare to face Varzim in the next Super Liga match.

Au revoir le Lens...
Capucho In a game marked by a bad pitch, also on a very cold night in France, Porto looked to be against 12 not 11 on the pitch as the ref made a very bad call to give Lens the lead everybody in the stadium seen the foul over Porto's keeper Baia upset the ref who was right there on the spot, but forgot I guess to make the call.
As Rigobert Song gave RC Lens a 1-0 UEFA Cup third round second leg victory over Porto on Thursday but could not prevent the Portuguese side going through as 3-1 aggregate winners. Nuno Capucho had a game to forget, it was another mistery performance by #21 was no where to be seen. Capucho was subbed for Jankauskas in the 74th minute.

If that was not enough bad news for Capucho fans then today it got worse, as Capucho did not train this morning, because of a knock he suffered on his knee in yesterday's game. Nuno Capucho is now in doubt for the Super Liga game this week against Paos Ferreira. Today Porto also found out who they will face in the 4th round of UEFA cup and they drew Turkish side Denizlisdpor. Boavista who also won in Bessa yesterday 1-0 over french side PSG now face Hertha Berlin next round.

Complicated at first...
Capucho In a game marked by bad weather and a bad pitch on the island of Aores. Santa Clara came flying out of the gate, with some dangerous attacks, one even being cleared off the goal line by Jorge Costa. It was another game not very easy for Nuno Capucho his rythm and great runs where just not there. Porto did manage to score first on a Helder Postiga goal going into halftime.

In the second half it was FC Porto who where attacking more and creating more chances as result. That led to another Postiga goal set up by Deco, and in the 58th minute Tiago came in for Capucho. Late in the game on some wounderfull passing Jankauskas made it 3-0 with a finishing header, Santa Clara answered with a quick goal right after that, but Porto was too much on this day to handle. Porto now sit at the top of the league with 33 points and a game less then Benfica the 2nd place team. Porto now prepare for this thursday's UEFA cup game in France against RC Lens witch FC Porto have a 3-0 aggragate lead.

Tough Students?
Capucho It was a game marked by birthday's as Super Dragoes celebrated their 16th birthday and FC Porto player Costinha also celebrated his birthday in style as he bought 4,000 tickets for FC Porto fans.

Nuno Capucho did not start against Acadmica infact he only played the last 20 minutes as in the 69th minute he replaced Costinha. This was Nuno Capucho's 350th league game, a great achivment. Acadmica scored first and took that lead into the secound half. Then Porto scored just five minutes into the half when Postiga was judged to have been brought down in the area.(very contreversial call made by the ref as it looked like nothing major for a penalty kick). Maniche stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly slotted the ball to the keepers left to bring the Dragoes level. After that goal Porto never looked back and dominated and the result was soon 2-0 on a great Deco free kick, as the fans where chanting Deco's name after his goal, Postiga made it 3-1 on a pure strikers goal, then the students had a player sent off for his secound yellow. late in the game Jankauskas sealed the victory by scoring to make it 4-1 and threw his shirt to the Super Dragoes, Antas was left celebrating as Porto now have 30 points and have a five point lead over 2nd place. Porto's and Capucho next match is in the island against Santa Clara.

Trs bien!!!
Capucho In front of 32,500 screaming fans at Antas, F.C Porto carried their superb domestic form into the UEFA Cup by defeating RC Lens 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Cup third-round tie.

Nuno Capucho who played from the start looked dangerous in the first half, but was later subbed for Tiago in the 66th minute. Porto could have won by a bigger margin and the fans where very happy with the result, but they where left thinking what could have been. Porto will take this great result and prepare for Acadmica who they face in the league. The goals against Lens where scored by Hlder Postiga who had two, and a late one by Edgaras Jankauskas that sealed a handsome victory at Antas. Warmuz 2nd goal of the game scored by Postiga was what we say "frango" but later he brilliantly tipped a powerful Capucho header over the bar for a corner. Warmuz also made some more key saves after, Lens where taken simply back to school by a Porto team that just dominated them from the very start and where just too strong for the french side.

Capucho on target!!
Capucho FC Porto started the Portugal Cup right on track, Mourinho who rested almost all his regular starters against Trofense. Seen his Porto team at Antas start with a quick goal by Tiago who was a ex-Trofense player himself, the goal was set up by Capucho.

In front of 7,500 fans Porto did not disapoint and soon Nuno Capucho also hit the target,Capucho on the 27th minute scored on a great shot and finnally cracked his goal drout, this will sure help his lost confidence and form. It looked like Porto was going for the "goleada" just that did not happen as Porto with all the chances they created and had, could only manage to waste them. Jankauskas was the one who managed to blow most of those chances. Capucho was subbed so he can rest and be ready to face Lens this week in the UEFA cup 3rd round, the game is at Antas. Porto are in the next round of the Portugal cup also after todays 2-0 win, but their already has been two shockers as Boavista are out and so is Benfica who lost at home to 2nd division B team Gondomar 1-0.

Porto win, and Capucho returns.
Capucho FC Porto visited Bonfim to face V. Setbal, this was a game that seen V. Setbal start on the defensive note,as Porto where the only team looking for the 3 points, Capucho started on the bench. Porto scored on the 45th minute and it was the young phenom again Helder Postiga to put them in advantage.

In the second half Mourinho took off Clayton and in came Nuno Capucho who did very little, after making his return from a knee injury and also the flu. This has been an awfull season for Capucho and his starting role soon can be in real jeopardy. Next game for FC Porto and Nuno Capucho is against Moreirense.

Capucho still unavailable!!
Nuno Capucho still has not recovered from a tendinite in the right knee, so Capucho wont be part of Jos Mourinho's selection for the game against Nacional Madeira this Monday.
Capucho stays in Porto to recover..
CapuchoNuno Capucho continues to be a card missing out of Jos Mourinho's deck. Disabled to line up against U.Leiria, Capucho still is not recouped of a tendinite in right knee and, therefore, it comes back to not being part of the options of the trainer for this weeks uefa match in Vienna to face Austria. The right midfielder will now have the chance of, until friday, to make a specific program of recovery to see if in this time, Capucho could be apt for the next commitment monday in the championship, against Nacional. Check out the NEW pictures of Capucho on the website Gallery section also new videos of Nuno Capucho on the National team will be added soon to the website. The site has also launched a new section called Amaizing Facts so take a look.

Sweated victory!
Capucho F.C Porto went to Aves never thinking it could be that hard to get the three points, but a confident Moreirense team gave Capucho and Porto a very hard day. The rain did not help as the pitch was not in very good condition.Nuno Capucho made his return to the starters role, but the Moreirense defence never allowed him to move or dribble freely or make his famous crosses,Capucho had a very diffacult game and managed to get a few shots on net to only be subbed in the 55th for Jankauskas. The goal came on the 72nd minute from a Derlei header to give Porto the three points and also give them 27 points in the Super Liga standings and extand their lead over 2nd Benfica witch has 22.

Capucho was not particularly well on his return to the starters role against Moreirense. Mourinho does not want to speak in reliable crisis of the player, because it's about an experienced element and with alot of weight that is important to the team. The best balsam for the backup of form of Capucho can be an full game in a pitch as one like Antas, it's more favorable to the communication of his attributes technician. The big question from alot of F.C Porto fans lately is, what's up with Capucho's form? It has not been near what it was last season at all,and the player's performances have gotten worse. Mourinho will start Capucho against Trofense in this week's Portugal Cup game while regular starters will rest, and give less used Porto players a chance to play.

Porto move to 3rd round!!
Capucho Austria Wien was punished by a bigger and stronger team as Porto showed they were hungry to make it to the 3rd round of uefa. FC Porto maintained their excellent form with a professional performance in atrocious weather conditions against FK Austria Wien that gave them a 2-0 victory on the night, and a 3-0 triumph on aggregate.
Nuno Capucho came in for Clayton after halftime, tough Capucho is still returning from his knee injury that has kept him out of alot of games,Capucho made alot of great pogress and looked dangerous and almost set up another Porto goal. Helder Postiga the young Porto phenom scored a beautifull header from a Clayton cross to give Porto a 1-0 lead and late in the game Derlei added the finishing touch. Porto now face a strong french side Lens, who was just eliminated out of the Champions League who managed to beat Inter Milan and Byren Munich while there.

Capucho Injured!!
CapuchoJos Mourinho has left Nuno Capucho out of his selection list for the Unio de Leiria game.
Capucho has a tendinite in the right knee and this injury will keep him out of Porto-Leiria match this Saturday, the injury dosent look too serious and there is a good chance he will be back to face Nacional at Antas next week. Akos Buzsky the young Hungarian U21 International from F.C Porto B team is the big suprise, as Jos Mourinho has called him up to the main squad for the very first time, also another two key players for Porto out for this fixture are Alenitchev and Csar Peixoto. It also looks like Capucho will miss Porto's uefa game in Vienna against Austria.

Porto wins heated Clssico!!
CapuchoIn a windy and rainy day Porto fans filled Antas for the sold out game against their rivals from Lisbon Benfica. The game was marked by three players being sent off in a heated Clssico as usual between these 2 clubs.

With the game just minutes in Benfica stunned all Antas faithful with an der making a run on the wing and crossing it to a Tiago's diving header and leaving Nuno just looking as Benfica took the early 1-0 lead. Porto looked stronger after that and where trying to mount the comeback, and der helped them do just that in the 20th minute when a Ferreira cross was met by his head for a own goal, to make it 1-1 and Porto pressuring,Capucho was making some nice runs on the side, but all that came soon to an end as the ref made a very bad call, Paulo Costa booked Jorge Costa over a foul to Simo that resulted in Costa seeing his second yellow after he received an earlier yellow over a foul to Fehr. It was clearly a bad call that put Porto a man down, the result of that was Nuno Capucho in the 41st minute being subbed for Ricardo Carvalho. Just before the first half ended a Deco free kick hit the crossbar.
The second half started surprisingly with FC Porto attacking and not backing up even tough a man down, Deco was cons tally fouled by Benfica players witch added up to 2 of them being sent off trough all the bookings, and one of those red cards cost Benfica dearly as Decos free kick beat Moreira a marvellous kick to give FC Porto a much 2-1 deserved lead also final result. This game was marked by a lot of fouls mostly Benfica also a poor refereeing job by Paulo Costa.

They are back!!!
CapuchoPortugal came from two goals behind to beat Sweden 3-2 in a friendly international in front of 33,047 at Gothenburg.

Portugal trailed 2-0 early and finally got going in the 33rd minute on a Nuno Capucho cross inside the box, Portugal pulled one back after Swedish central defender Michael Svensson pulled down striker Marco Ferreira inside the box. Srgio Conceio made no mistake from the penalty spot and came close to equalising in the 43rd minute when his shot from outside the box sailed over Sweden's out-of-position goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson but hit the crossbar. Capucho was subbed in the second half for BoaMorte on the 46th minute. Just early in the second half Romeu who was making his second start for the AA equalized when he headed in a rebound after Dick Last, on for Isaksson, could only punch away Nuno Valente's long distance shot. The best was saved for the end when a Figo short corner met was met by Rui Costa whos long-range shot was pure magic and was enough to beat Sweden 3-2, and give Oliveira a win to remember as he prepares for his anticipated return to the reins of the Portugal Under-21 side.

Capucho made his 7th career start for the "AA". This was also Portugals first win since being eliminated from this summers World Cup, they had two 1-1 ties one to England and the other to Tunisia. Nuno Capucho now heads back to Portugal to train with the Porto squad for the big Super Liga game this Sunday against Benfica.

1-1 in Aveiro!
CapuchoPorto faced a Beira Mar team that has had their number since last season, today was no exception as they only managed a draw, tough Porto took the lead trough a Derlei goal ten minutes into the game, they seemed to be lost and out of rythm after that. Mourinho choose to not start Capucho this game, also Mourinho did not even select the young phenom Helder Postiga for this game, that came back to haunt him as Ricardo Sousa ex-F.C Porto player who left on a free transfer scored a great goal (64m) off a free kick that left Nuno with no chance.
Soon after that Mourinho put Nuno Capucho on the 67th minute but it was too little to late, as Beira Mar players would not slip up and disapoint the 7,000 supporters that showed up Monday night for this late Super Liga game that ended 1-1 final. This game also had another bad performance by the #21 Porto right winger, this has Capucho fans worried about his recent poor performances,Nuno has to start picking it up and get to the great level of play that his fans are used to seeing play.(let's hope Capucho does it against S.L.B) This tie also put Porto one point ahead of the pack with 14 points as Belenenses and Benfica have 13,as Porto face Benfica in a big game at Antas next league match.

Oliveira names latest 22..
CapuchoPortugal coach Agostinho Oliveira has named a 22-man squad for the EURO 2004 hosts' friendly internationals against Tunisia on 12 October and Sweden on 16 October.
Portugal squad
Ricardo Pereira(Boavista), Quim Silva(Braga), Fernando Couto(S.S Lazio), Nuno Valente(FC Porto), Paulo Ferreira(FC Porto), Beto Severo(Sporting), Rui Jorge(Sporting), Fernando Meira(Stugart), Jorge Silva(Boavista), Sergio Conceio(Inter Milan), Jose Vidigal(Napoli), Rui Costa(AC Milan), Neca Fernandes(Belenenses), Armando Petit(Benfica), Francisco Costinha(FC Porto), Hugo Viana(Newcastle Utd), Nuno Gomes(Benfica), Simo Sabrosa(Benfica), Pauleta Resendes(Bordeaux), Nuno Capucho(F.C Porto), Luis Boa Morte(Fulham), Luis Figo(Real Madrid).
Vitor Baia has been droped from the squad, that may come as a suprise to alot of people, but Baia has been recently suspended by his club and has not been in game action for a while, also absent is Joao Manuel Pinto who has been in poor form at Benfica also Abel Xavier not called up against England will also not be in the plans, but Xavier is sick and that can be the reason.

Super-Deco!(FCP 1-0 Maritimo)
Capucho Deco's goal early into the game sealed the victory for FCP on their 109th birthday. The goal, a stroke of pure genius by Deco, enables FC Porto to keep pace with Benfica for the top spot in the SuperLiga table. Porto now have 13 points from 5 matches and have won 4 games in a row since their opening 2-2 home draw to Belenenses.

Maritimo were coming off quite possibly their worst home result in history. Last weekend they were trounced at home by Setubal, 5-0. The talk all week in the Maritimo camp was that the Setubal game was ancient history and that FC Porto is their future, Porto meanwhile performed surgery on Guimaraes last week in a 2-0 win.
Capucho
FC Porto entered the match with their foot firmly on the gas pedal. The Dragoes gave the Maritimo defense all they could handle in the opening 10 minutes with waves and waves of attacking pressure. The pressure paid off when Deco found himself facing the goal from just outside the area and neatly slotted a low ball out of the reach of Nelson. The goal was nearly not as nice as the buildup to the goal that involved Deco going around three Maritimo defenders as if they were pylons. (Nuno Capucho was involved with a head to head colision with Lino in the 30th minute Capucho had to leave the pitch for a few minutes because he was bleeding.)

Instead of sitting on their lead, FC Porto went out looking for more. The Dragoes pressured the Maritimo goal and were almost rewarded with a goal after Jankauskas headed the ball off of the bar. A little later Paulo Sergio hauled Jankauskas down in the area but no penalty was called. Porto ended the first half on a bit of a sour note as they allowed Maritimo to claw their way back into the game, however the islanders were unable to create any serious pressure on the Porto goal and went into halftime a goal down.

The second half started and more of the same continued. Porto were intent on not only scoring an insurance marker but also burying Maritimo. If it wasn't for the lack of a finishing touch Porto would surely have accomplished the burial. The best chance of the half fell onto Capucho who had his header cleared off of the line by the keeper Nelson.
A Porto victory was now in the cards. After the Capucho miss the Dragoes decided to finally take their foot off of the gas pedal and simply kill time. With the clock approaching ever so closely to 90 minutes, Maritimo attempted to pressure FC Porto's defense into commiting errors. The Porto defense was unbreakable and as a result Maritimo were unable to prevent FC Porto from coming away with the three points.(fcporto-online)

F.C Porto climbs to 2nd in SuperLiga..
CapuchoFC Porto won over Vitoria de Guimares in the Estadio do Felgueiras for second place in the Super League. Nuno Capucho made a good game as forward on the right side. FC Porto played a 4x4x2 system because they had that to adjust the players around because of the expulsion of Pedro Emanuel in the game last round with Gil Vicente. Ricardo Carvalho played in the place of the Emanuel. Also one another before the game news-maker was that Vitor Baia was not on the list of players for the game without the explination of coach Jose Mourinho.
The first half was dominated by both sides. Still in the first half, Rafael of Guimares was sent off for two yellows to result in a red card for protests at the referee. Almost after Rafeal, former member of FC Porto, being sent off, Capucho saw a yellow card for having simulated a foul in the 30th minute. In the 41st minute, Deco finally scored his first goal of the 2002/2003 season off of a free kick from the left side. FC Porto was leading the game for the first part of the second half. Guimares started to attack more to the net of Nuno, but failed ot tie the game up! Still in the second half FC Porto scored a second time. After Capucho and Jankauskas were substituted for Helder Postiga, and Tiago, the two had combined for Tiago's first goal as a member of FC Porto. Guimares still tried to score, but the defense of FC Porto was strong today.
It was a deserved victory for the Blue and White side, that puts them in second place in the Super League behind Benfica. The next game for FC Porto will be against Martimo at the Estadio das Antas next round.

Porto start UEFA with Half Dozen..
CapuchoFC Porto turned on the style to win 6-0 over Polonia Warszawa at Antas in front of 21,209 faithfull who watched in the rain Porto get off to a great UEFA start.
Nuno Capucho had an excellent game on the right wing and assisted on one of the goals. The first goal came on the 20th minute by the Lithuanian Edgar Jankauskas on a Deco cross.Later in the match a Paulo Ferreira pass was met by a precise Derlei header and the result was 2-0 Porto on the 37th minute.
Porto went at Antas to halftime leading 2-0 but with a sour taste,as they where dominating the game but only managed two goals, then came the second half and what a half it was, Porto started the show with another Deco pass that led to Maniche's goal to make it 3-0,as the fans where still celebrating that goal, Capucho combined with Jankauskas for the 4th goal also the best of the night,as Jankauskas scored with his back heel, pure class. Mourinho decided to bring in Alenitchev and Hlder Postiga after the forth goal,it dident take long for those two to also factor in on the score sheet as a Alenitchev pass led to Postiga goal in the 69th minute,In the 89th it was Postiga again as the young phenom ended the rout. That described how easy Porto had it tonight, Capucho and Deco put on a show, as they did anything they wanted to in the midfield, the 6-0 final could have been more,as Porto had many chances wasted. FC Poto were always in command and never where tested, Nuno barely touched the ball.FC Porto now must prepare for a crucial game in SuperLiga against a tough V. Guimares team.

Maniche Shines!
CapuchoNuno Capucho and FC Porto returned to a victory this 3rd round in the Super Liga at home against Gil Vicente. With this win, it puts Capucho and FC Porto 2 points behind leaders Benfica for the top spot in the Super Liga. In the first half the team from Barcelos, Portugal scored first in the 13th minute when from free kick, Nuno Amrao scores from the 25 meters from the goal. The goal-keeper of FC Porto tried to defend it, but the ball seems to have been kicked badly without a chance for Nuno. Later in the 18th minute it was the time for Capucho to shine. Capucho crossed the ball from the right wing to the head of the Maniche that ties up to the game at the Antas. The second half started with rain, and in the 60th minute, Capucho and Costinha were substituted by the Clayton, and Alenichev. In the 71st minute, Deco suffered a foul in the area. Jose Mourinho, trainer of FC Porto ordered Maniche to take it, and in the 72nd minute Maniche scored his second goal as a member of FC Porto. After the game being in the hands of the FC Porto, Pedro Emauel and Jorge Costa didnt communicate, and when Pedro Emauel took down Duah in front of area, he was sent off with a direct red card. After many yellow cards for FC Porto and Gil Vicente, Deco made a good play, that served Jankauskas, that gave it to Alenichev that kicked it and it hit both postes and went in for the final result of 3-1 for FC Porto.
Capucho played good in this game with Gil Vicente. He assisted the first goal for Maniche, and always won the ball in air. The next game for Capucho and FC Porto will be against Polonia Warszawa for the UEFA Cup on September19th.

Double Header..
CapuchoAgostinho Oliveira got off to a good start as the new seleco coach. England were held to a 1-1 draw by Portugal in a friendly at Villa Park on Saturday infront of 40,000.
Alan Smith scored his first goal on his first international start the Leeds striker, who previously made three appearances as a substitute, found the net five minutes from the break, stooping low to head home club team-mate Lee Bowyer's accurate right wing cross. But Porto midfielder Costinha spoiled Smith's day by grabbing a deserved equaliser 11 minutes from time with a firm close range header set up by Newcastle young starlet Hugo Viana.
From two subsequent Viana corners however, Portugal twice struck the woodwork through headers by Nuno Gomes as England's defenders seemed to go to sleep. Nuno Capucho came in on the second half and played 45 minutes,Capucho was the captain on the pitch for the seleco. Nuno Capucho also came close to scoring in the 69th minute as yet another Hugo Viana play sent him on a dangerous attack that David James stoped, what looked to be a Capucho pass to Nuno Gomes who was unmarked. Portugal played in 4-3-3, and looked good and brought joy too many fans, after their World Cup failure. Portugal's next Euro 2004 friendly is against Sweeden, for preporation leading to the tournament witch Portugal will be hosts.

Capucho and the National Team in England
CapuchoAgostinho Oliveira used the only practice of the day to work on two systems that he will be using for the game against England on Saturday at Villa Park. He used 3 defenders, two outside midfielders, one defencive midfielder, one offensive midfielder, and 2 outside forwards, and a striker. Vitor Baia, Srgio conceio, Beto, Fernando Couto, Rui Costa, Petit, Rui Jorge, and Fernando Meira, were one group concentrated on defensive work. While the other group was focused on attacking with Capucho, Costinha, Hugo Viana, Boa morte, Simo, and Nuno Gomes. After some rain, the national team trained all together with the idea of a starting line-up for the game at Villa Park. Vtor Baa, Srgio Conceio, Beto, Meira, Couto e Rui Jorge; Petit e Rui Costa; Simo, Capucho, and Pauleta who is the team that will most defiantly be starting the game against England with the possible switch with Figo for Nuno Capucho. On the other side was what looked to be the B string team with Ricardo, Paulo Ferreira, Joo Manuel Pinto, Jorge Silva, Nuno Valente, Costinha, Vidigal, Hugo Viana, Boa Morte, and Nuno Gomes. The mini-game only lasted a while, and didnt have any goals but showed the clear ideas that what the coach has in mind.

Heated derby in Bessa.
CapuchoFive years later, FC Porto comes back to defeat Boavista in the Stadium of Bessa, with just over 9,000 fans on a cold Monday, in the meeting that locked up the second day of SuperLiga. Midfielder Costinha scored for his side, just over the 45 minutes mark to the end of the first half. der and Derlei where sent off late due to a scufle that broke out between them, it was a very hard foul game with most of them all beeing commited by Boavista. Deco was the other star of the game,he did what he could but was fouled so many times that he was lucky he still walked off the pitch with both legs. Costinha had a great game, that was destroyed by so many hard fouls and stopage of play. 1-0 final witch was a result Porto very well deserved.Nuno Capucho did not play against Boavista due to his suspension rulling from a pre-season game against Braga, his creativity in the midfield and ball posetion was missed. Capucho will be back for next game v's Gil Vicente.

Agostinho Oliveira 22 picks..
CapuchoAgostinho Oliveira 22 man squad to face England in Birmingham on september 7th in a friendly to prepare for Euro 2004 witch will be held in Portugal are,
FC Porto: Vtor Baa, Nuno Valente, Paulo Ferreira, Costinha e Nuno Capucho
Benfica - Nuno Gomes, Petit e Simo,Sporting - Rui Jorge e Beto,Boavista - Jorge Silva e Ricardo,AC Milan - Rui Costa,Inter - Srgio Conceio,Lazio - Fernando Couto,Bordux - Pauleta,Fulham - Boa Morte,Newcastle - Hugo Viana,Napoli - Vidigal,Corunha - Jorge Andrade,Real Madrid - Figo,Estugarda - Fernando Meira.

FC Porto is the team with the most selected by Oliveira for the Seleco to face England they have 5, two of them will be making their day views they are,Nuno Valente e Paulo Ferreira their selection to some might come as a shock, but they desreved and are well qualified to play in the "AA".

Capucho wont face Boavista?
CapuchoF.C.Porto received, yesterday in the afternoon, a fax of notification of the Commission discipline of the Liga that determines the suspension of its player Nuno Capucho for a game that, will be fulfilled in next monday game against Boavista, the game will be played in Stadium of Bessa, and with the starting time marked for 21 hours. The legal department of the F. C. Porto does not have the minimum possibility to appeal the decision of the Council of Disciplines. Federao Portuguesa of Soccer, as the proper regulation determines.
Initially Capucho was banned for the opening match against Belenenses, but a surprise last minute decision for the disciplinary commitee allowed Capucho to play the league opener and suspend him for the second match against Boavista at Bessa. SuperLiga is the new league name, but the league is still very contreversial runned by some questionable people, and it seems the same teams benefit every time.

Tie at the Antas
CapuchoNuno Capucho, and F.C Porto tied their first game of the season against Belenenses. The game was played at home in the Antas to many Porto fans, 80% of the house was full for this match. In the first half it seemed that the Belenenses were more concerned with injuring the FCP players after the referee showed 6 yellow cards in the first half. The scoring opened in the 12th minute off of a free kick, that Neca from the Belenenses hit past Vitor Baia for the opening goal. After a frustrating first half, FCP found themselves down by a goal at home. In the second half FCP came back hard, making Belenenses keeper, Marco Aurlio, on his toes making great saves. Finally FCP scored their firt goal of the Super Liga in the 66th minute when Helder Postiga ripped one past the keeper. Jose Mourinho, FCPs coach had been critisising the referee throughout the game because in his words, He recked the flow of the match by calling too many little fouls. Finally the referee sent Mourinho off for his comments. Later after the game Mourinho apologized, but didnt leave out the fact that the match was poorly called. By the end of the second half, it looked like the game would stay as a 1-1 draw. In the 87th minute, Jorge Costa fouled the Belenenses player Neca inside the box. After all the protests, in the 90th minute Neca scored off of a penalty shot, to give the visitors the lead. In extra time, FCP player Jankauskas stepped up and hammered another goal home for FCP to ensure the result of a tie at the Antas.

Looks like Capucho will play.
CapuchoThe Conselho de Disciplina da Federao Portuguesa de Futebol has decided to lift the first round bans placed on a number of players including FC Porto's Capucho.
Capucho was sent off in Porto's next to last pre-season game against Braga and was scheduled to miss this Sunday's game against Belenenses. Capucho will still serve a one match ban, one week later. Ironically one week later Capucho will be suspended for the Porto derby against Boavista, a suspension Pinto daCosta was not very happy about.
"Im not susprised with the decision" he said. "Jose (Mourinho) was planning for the game with the Capucho suspension in mind and now everything has to change."
daCosta went on to say that the championship has started in a very "rotten" fashion and went on to suggest that the dice are going to start rolling in favor of two certain rivals clubs. One wears black and the other red.(fcporto-online)

(Record)

Capucho trains apart from squad
Nuno Capucho might be sidelined for a few days or a few weeks if its serious, depends on the medical test results tomorrow, today in Gaia training in the new FC Porto facility Capucho just trained in the gym, because he suffered a traumatise to his right knee, the problem is the muscle in his right knee.
This problem occurred in the game against Celta Vigo. We will see if Capucho trains tomorrow and will be ready to face Belenenses for the start of the season witch kicks off this week.

Capucho sent off in Iberica Cup!!
CapuchoFC Porto faced SP. Braga in the Iberica Cup a friendly game in 1 Maio Braga that was not so friendly after all, with a poor ref and linesman in the middle of it all.
Tough FC Porto won the game 1-0 on a Jankauskas goal, the game was marked by all these bookings and brutal tackles. Nuno Capucho had a great chance to score in the 59th minute he had what looked like a sure goal only to see his header go wide. Later on Braga was down to 10 as the ref sent one of their players off, it was only a matter of time before this bad ref was to make another mistake and destroy the match and that came in the 72nd minute when Antnio Estaquio sent off Nuno Capucho for an elbow on Ze Roberto that did not happen or exist.
Ze Roberto previous to the incident that led to Capucho getting a red card, was the victim of some harsh words by Capucho, he later explained to the papers he faked the incident so Capucho would get punished On that play, Capucho did not attack me. I noticed that he wanted to get rough with me, so I took advantage of the situation. Moments before that play, Capucho did attack me, but verbally which I think the coach should reprehend him of doing that. Robertos words after the game. It doesnt look like the league will punish Capucho or suspend him for the first game of the season, but Porto president Pinto DaCosta was furious and could not beleive Nuno was sent off for that Oscar winning act Roberto pulled off, DaCosta had these words to say about the refs.If in an international tournament, with teams of this quality, there arent refs from 1 Division, then next Friday I will present here my B team. We cant except that they joke and play with soccer and these teams. Now we wait and see what the league will do about this incident.

Capucho: "We come back home more stronger"
After watching 40,000 fans pack Estdio das Antas on presentation day this saturday Capucho had a few words to say.
Nuno Capucho did not have doubts in classifying as "very positive" the two weeks passed in France. "the period of training ran very well, matched the group and all we feel that we came back home stronger", he explained. As one of the most experienced elements of the team, Capucho analyzed the integration of the players who had arrived at the team. "the new signings were adapting well because the adaptation to this group is easy. Later, they are all good players and good people and when it's like that it's more easy to combine themselves." Of remaining portion, Capucho does not have doubts of that this year the team "is stronger" even so not wanting to advance on the hypotheses to arrive at the title. "We have one team that will play good soccer and will leave the fans of FC Porto satisfied. This is most important. Later we will think about the remaining portion ", said.

Capucho considers "normal" the outputs of Jorge Andrade and Paredes
FC Porto player Nuno Capucho affirmed that the changes in the breeding of its club, more necessarily the eventual transfer of Jorge Andrade to Corunha and confirmed sale of the pass of the Paraguayan Paredes to Reggina, just promoted to serieA in Italy, "are normal".
"At this moment professional soccer has lot's of these situations. If we have a strong group, any output or any input will be excepeted in the best way ", explained the player of the club of Antas, that trained for the first time in full force for FC Porto, since the period of training of daily pre-season in Saint-tienne started. "the beginning always is complicated because we return of vacations, that serve to rest. It's hard, but is a sign that we are working gradually and getting there. To the few we acquire the competitive rhythm ", affirmed Capucho. As objective for the new season, the national title is the goal to reach. "the objective is always the same we fight always to reach the titles and win. We know mainly that we will have many difficulties and each time more pressure, because we have not won the national title in three years. By the way, the new players know well of this ".

Capucho: O Mundial no me afectou nada
Capucho Nuno Capucho j virou a pgina do Campeonato do Mundo. O extremo do F.C. Estou aqui a treinar no F.C. Porto e s penso no F.C. Porto.
