"You're not thinking about
Xander?" Angel smirked at Spike's startled expression. "I know you're in
love with him, Spike. Heck, a blind man could see that." The younger
vampire shifted slightly. "You don't think Xander knows, do you?" "I said
a blind man could see it, not a dumb one." This is cute, fluffy, and well
written. Spike's rather girly without losing all of his masculinity, but
the well done underlying humor and the fact that he's just so engaging
does more than redeem the blue nail polish. This one has a choose your own
level of man-smex ending. |

Xander gets tired of
Scoobyland and takes a road trip. He ends up in Charleston, South Carolina
where he discovers both a talent for gardening and Spike. He manages to
get on Spike's bad side right off the bat, but a quirky old lady, Xander's
employer gets in the way and Spike decides to have some fun. I loved the
characterizations for the most part and the plot was an interesting take.
The problem was that the move from Spike-hates-Xander to
Spike-likes-Xander had zero development. I found it nearly impossible to
believe that the Spike who hated Xander would suddenly want to boff
him. |

Spike finds a hurt Xander in
the cemetary and decides to take him in and things twist out of control.
The boldface instead of italics for emphasis is seriously annoying. This
is one of those classic Xander's father abuses him and Spike makes it all
better stories. Maybe it's the classic in the fandom.

Spike gets suddenly and
inexplicably sick and Xander finds himself taking care of the vampire that
he not only hates, but that he caught boffing his girlfriend a few hours
earlier. It was different and I like the originality of the plot. Xander's
character wasn't developed enough over the course of the fic. |

Anya gets annoyed with Xander
after he takes a second job at the movie theater to get out of the
Basement of Doom and swears there'll be no sex until he makes her the
priority. Willow and Buffy have other plans. So it's Spike for the free
movies; Spike who sneaks in JD and yells at the screen. Xander finds out
that movies can be great. Set Season 4-ish sorta. A nice take on the
usual plot. It's nicely character driven, despite the whole Scoobies don't
have time for Xander anymore, but Spike's there cliche. |

Lieutenant
Xander L. Harris of the Council is taken prisoner by Captain William the
Bloody during a raid on the ship he was assigned to. As the Captain's Mate
aboard the DeSoto, Xander begins to see that the war between the
Council and the Biogens isn't quite the way he'd believed it to be, and
neither are Biogens. I'm iffy on the whole derivative characters in an
author's universe thing, for the most part, because I'm pretty much as
enamored of the original universe as I am of the characters. This one, I
gave it a try and I'm glad I did. The author's universe is magnificently
woven and the derivative characters fit into it seamlessly. The downside
is that while the plot was resolved and the novel is a complete work,
there are enough loose ends that's it's really not
finished. |

Spike owes Oz after they both
spent time in the loving hands of the Initiative. He wants to own Xander,
after discovering the two in Seattle. Oz is slowly dying and Xander has
problems with the hyena. Intense, well thought out, well developed. I
still found my eyes skipping downward, though. It's either the type of
story that doesn't appeal or the mildly dispassionate Voice. |

What if Xander had told Buffy
the truth when Angelus opened Acathla? In this universe, Buffy disappears
to LA with a soul-restored Angel while Xander, Willow, Oz, Faith try to
save as much human life as possible in Sunnydale. After Faith tries to
exchange Xander and her son along with Joyce's life for the power to
remove all demons from Sunnydale, Xander, Willow, Oz, Joyce, and the
children move to the Hyperion so a dying Joyce can see Buffy for the last
time. Xander is stolen by Wolfram & Hart minions and three Jaztar
demons are forced to rape him and impregnate him. Then Xander, as the
Neutral powers that be rep, must choose between darkness and light with
terrible consequences for both. He chooses to lie to Buffy. The depth of
character and plot development redeem what amounts to a soap operatic love
affair with Xander's character. This writer likes to transfer the power
Buffy had in the series as the protagonist to Xander, so it's not
surprising. Overall, though, it's interesting enough to read to the end
and Xander wasn't exactly Xander-Sue'd, though he was. |

Angel tolerated Xander's
overt demon-hating until Xander decided to stake him in his own bed, while
he was wearing black silk pajama bottoms. He takes the unwilling and
easily caught boy down to a demon community to teach him that not all
demons are evil, but he never expected Xander to mature like he did. The
evil bad guy in this is named after chewing tobacco and Buffy is involved
in the usual Xangel bash. This would have been much better, except for the
occassional web page formatting errors. |

When the ancient evil
goddess, the Queen of Shadows, takes over Sunnydale, Xander escapes to get
help from Angel. Despite Xander's love for Spike and Angel's love for
Wesley, they become Bonded as Guardian and Defender of the West in order
to save the world. The plot is cool, but the rampant Xander-Sue-ification
in the face of Scoobies who have treated him woefully in the past is
detracting. |

In order to summon the powers
of the Protector (so they can protect the world from a demon horde), the
eldest of the Scooby group, Angel, must have sex with the youngest virgin.
Oz makes sure to take Willow out of the running so that leaves Xander. It
wouldn't have been so bad perhaps, but Xander said no so Buffy, Oz, and
Giles launch a campaign to force him into it for their own, selfish
reasons. Willow goes along with them, it's to save the world, after all.
Yeah, Xander does eventually give it up to Angel and the love that dare
not speak its name abounds. This is, like, the quintessential
Scooby-bashing fic. It loses track of its own plot about a quarter-ish of
the way through, but struggles gamely to stick with it. Blade (of Wesley
Snipes fame) makes a few guest appearances, for no reason. Our heroine,
Xander, doesn't get Xander-Sue-ified, and he's actually well written
considering how appallingly easy it would be to Xander-Sue him. It's like
they were suddenly all transported into a bad episode of vampire Passions
that eventually gets disjointed. |

Angel, along with Angelus,
who has secretly been in love with Xander since they met, goes to Rome
with Spike to tell the Scoobies, and his beloved Xander about the death of
Cordelia Chase after the Black Thorn thing. Xander, who has secretly been
in love with both Angel and Angelus since they met, doesn't take it well.
This story is the very definition of cheesy romance novel. Xander is one
of those dewy-eyed, lip-trembling heroines with cores of steel that the
Scoobies, Buffy in particular, never appreciated until the Hero (that
would be both Angel and Angelus) swoops in to show them the error of their
ways. The Xander-worship puts this firmly in the realm of Xander-Sue
and gets nauseatingly melodramatic. "Oh, I can't think about how my
friend's death is effecting me, it's all about Xander and how much I've
hurt him!!!!" I can't but enjoy it. |
