Lenni Lenabe Fact Sheet

History

The nation of Lenni Lenabe is/was the most important nation of Muurs (natives) in the United States of America’s history.  This is due to the fact that if it weren’t for these indigenous people there would be no United States of America.

When William Penn first arrived at this country he was given permission by the Sagamuurs to set up his government. He was not sold land, he was given land to occupy.  The Lenabe never sold land because they understood that it was not their land to give. They knew that the Earth was and still is a gift from Great Spirit to his people stewarded by a Grand Sachem.

Nationality

Nationality is very important to the identity of a person or people and without it they are  nameless, faceless, parentless, beings. Nationality is essential to the Lenni Lenabe because the settlers once attempted to take it from them causing the knowledge of themselves to be buried deep inside of family histories so to the point that even the members themselves (new generations) did not remember for a very long time. It was only when a 96 year old Nanticoke Lenabe woman brought the knowledge back to the surface saying, knowledge of a people cannot be learned from a book” that the Lenni Lenabe people remember who they were. She made her grandson Kacheh Sachem and the people have been living their Lenabe life ever since.

Early Lenabe Society

Lenni Lenabe were a nation of original people that although the European Paradigm tried to classify according to language as opposed to national bloodline, had all of the usual structures of a nation and an independent people i.e., language, law, and authority.  Classifying a people by their language is a futile endeavor especially in the case of Lenabe since the language was as universal then as English is today.  Classifying every Native American by language as opposed to national ancestry is like saying that all English speaking people are from the European race. Many Lenabe and other races of people speak English today, however that does not mean that they are European. The head of the Lenabe nation was known as the Kacheh Sachem or the Great Chief, which was a title of Authority that represented the fact that he knew the ancient culture story of his people and how to speak about it.

Early Lenabe life was disease and crime free until the settlers came to this fine country. They brought with them low morals and poor behavior. The indigenous people that were celebrated worldwide did not aggress them initially because it was the policy of the land to treat all people well, however it soon became obvious that war with the settlers who were new to the land would be inevitable, therefore the ancient Lenabe assembled the warriors of Mijowe (Lenabe Martial Arts) and took to the warpath against what they considered beast that walked and talked like men.
