Dec. 28, 2002 I woke up at about 7:00, and promptly turned off the alarm and got up again at 8:00. I could hear Fumiko, Mayuho's mother out in the living room putting away her futon and doing some cleaning I imagine. So I got out of bed and made breakfast for us. She had eggs and some of my home-made sourdough bread with cheese, I had a piece of the bread with some jam and my usual muesli and home-made yogurt. (in case you hadn't noticed, I am really into this homemade stuff!) Then we zoomed off to see the baby and mother in the clinic. They were doing fine, and just after we arrived, they brought in the baby to stay!!!! It was picture paradise! Of course, babies don't do many poses: sleeping, drinking, and looking around, and Kylie is such a quiet baby (At least she is now, who knows what will happen in a week or so! She may be the loudest kid on Earth). So we all took tons of pictures. Then came the 11:00 feeding! We were so excited! I made the 30ml of formula, but I was so nervous I put in too much hot water and had to do it over. Mayuho tried numerous holds on Kylie to get her to nurse, but she is such a quiet girl, she just kept on falling asleep! We had to caress her cheek to get her to suck, but she would just drift off after a few seconds. It was so cute, but a little frustrating. I was getting pretty hungry doing this dad stuff, so I took off to home to roast the chicken I had bought the day before, and made stuffing with the rest of my bread. Then Fumiko and I had a Christmas/ Welcome Baby lunch. Of course, the baby was back in the clinic, but the idea is important, right? In the afternoon, I spent hours holding the baby when I wasn't running up main street looking for a florist. Baby Kylie would just gaze up at me with her cute brown eyes, and stick her tounge out and smile (yes, I know it is just gas, but it was so cute!) And the two times she started to cry, I just asked her "Who's daddy's little girl?" and she just stopped crying! It was like magic! I sure hope it works that well all the time! Then at 6:00 Fumiko had to go back home, so I carried her bags to the station and said goodbye. And i raced back to the clinic to see Kylie again. Tomorrow I get to clean the car and put in the infant seat. Whew, a dad's work never ends. |
