| Shawn Michaels Profile Con't: It was then set that at Wrestlemania 10 in 1994 the two would have a ladder match. At the time this was an unprecedented decision to have such a violent type of match but Razor and Shawn delivered. In one of the greatest matches of all-time, the two men battled and in the end it probably overshadowed the main event between Bret Hart and Yokozuna. The match ended with Ramon as the winner and new IC champion but the loss for Michaels was not detrimental at all. If anything this match helped elevate his career to new heights. Later that year Shawn went on to win the WWF Tag Team Titles for the first time with his �bodyguard� Diesel but the duo never really got off the ground and later split. Michaels quickly garnered the services of one Sycho Sid. HBK then entered the 1995 30 man Royal Rumble as the first entrant. Incredibly, Michaels was able to survive the test and became the Royal Rumble winner for the first time in his career. Shawn thus earned a WWF title shot at Wrestlemania 11 against his former partner and now WWF Champion Diesel. Michaels wound up losing to Diesel at Wrestlemania but it wouldn�t take long for the two to reunite. In a strange turn of events, the very next night after Wrestlemania, Sid brutally attacked HBK with numerous powerbombs in which the crowd gave Shawn their sympathy. Later that year Michaels became the most popular man in the business, winning the IC and Tag Team championships with his once again partner Diesel. HBK was on the fast track to the WWF Title until one ugly October night in 1995. Shawn was inside of a car outside of a nightclub in Syracuse, New York waiting for his real life friends The British Bulldog and Sean Waltman (X-Pac). While inside of the car, Michaels fell asleep and this is where between 7 to 11 men beat Michaels nearly to death. Thus forcing HBK to give up his IC title. Yet Shawn never refused to let his fans down and when he came back, he came back more popular than ever. He went on to win his second consecutive Royal Rumble in 1996 thus propelling him to his second consecutive main event at a Wrestlemania 12. The Wrestlemania 12 main event pitted �The Heartbreak Kid� Shawn Michaels versus Bret �Hitman� Hart in a 60 minute ironman match. Most pinfalls, submissions, or DQ�s in the allotted period of time. The WWF thought that it would be difficult to have 2 men battle for an hour and have it interesting throughout, but the company�s 2 workhorses didn�t fail to deliver. The match was poetry in motion and had Michaels coming out on top 1 fall to none in overtime. HBK had finally become the World Wrestling Federation Champion. A feat for a man his size in a big man�s game. Shawn would hold on to the title for nearly the entirety of 1996 until losing it to Sycho Sid in December but he captured it a month later in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas at the 1997 Royal Rumble. Just a few weeks after gaining the federation title Shawn �lost his smile� and forfeited the championship. In actuality Michaels had a serious knee injury but some believed that it was just Michaels not wanting to job (lose 1 on 1 without interference of any kind) to Bret Hart. The real life hatred between Shawn and Bret continued to build throughout the year and even included a backstage brawl between the two. All of this hate was included in a wild year for the WWF that included the formation of Degeneration X, the very first Hell in a Cell match between HBK and The Undertaker and Michaels winning his third WWF Tag Title with Stone Cold Steve Austin. |
