| Shawn Michaels Profile Con't: But amid all the craziness of 1997, the Survivor Series in Montreal, Quebec, Canada took the cake. This is where perhaps the most infamous event in sports entertainment history took place. While Michaels wrestled the then WWF Champion Hart, Vince McMahon commanded referee Earl Hebner to RING THE FN BELL while Bret was caught in his own finisher, The Sharpshooter. The entire crowd in Montreal knew that something unscripted had taken place and could be told by the surprised looks in both of the faces of the competitors. Hart was furious and proceeded to spit on McMahon and later beat him up backstage. Hart was expelled to WCW while Michaels finished what would be his final months as a competitor in the WWF. Shawn had taken a tremendous beating on his body throughout the years and his back was in constant pain. During this time of agony Stone Cold Steve Austin began his great wave of popularity and March 29, 1998 at Wrestlemania XIV we saw the torch change hands. Austin defeated Michaels in Shawns final WWF match. Michaels did what many criticized him for lacking in his past, he jobbed for another wrestler and it was none other than The baddest man on the planet Mike Tyson who counted the 1-2-3 on Michaels. Michaels continued to stay in the public eye for the last few years by becoming the commisioner and official spokesman for the company but now he is back with the NWO and has rekindled the hopes of many fans that wish to see him once again competing in the ring. My final wrap-up is this: Shawn Michaels is like I said in the very beginning, perhaps the single most influential wrestler of all-time. The list goes on as to how many stars he is linked to but one thing is for sure he has touched every single star in one form or another, from the high-flying Jeff Hardy, to the brash Chris Jericho, everyone has been affected by The Heartbreak Kid. |
