Monemvasia
It
was 2000 years ago when people built up a town at the top of a 300 meter rock so
as to get protection against the barbarians. This is how a town developed and
thrived in the southeastern side of Peloponnese , known as the " Gibraltar of
East " : Monemvasia
The
name Monemvasia means in Hellenic :" Solitary Entrance " and it was given to the
fort because there was only one way someone could enter it by land ;
Today Monemvasia consists of two different towns : the Byzantine built at the
rock and the port built at the neighboring coast .

Corfu
The
ancient city of Corfu was built during the 8th century BC and it stood south of
where today's city is placed, between Garitsa bay and the lake Chaliopoulou.
The center of the ancient city stood where Palaiopoli is today, up to the
cannon.
The market must have been opposite the palace of Mon Repo and it is believed
that in the place of Analipsis, stood the Acropolis.

Ithaka
Ithaka
was the beloved island home of the legendary Greek hero, Odysseus.
After he had played a leading role in the Trojan War, Odysseus roamed the world
for 10 years, having adventures, meeting challenges, and learning lessons that
profoundly changed him.
Today, an odyssey means a long (often exhausting) exhilaration and/or
excruciating transformative journey.
Kefalonia
The
name of the island Kefalonia derives from King Kefalus, who had married the
daughter of the King and hero, Theseus.
According to the legend, he came to Kefalonia because he had killed his wife.
Kephalus' descendant, according to the historical researchers, is Odysseus,
resourceful and ingenious hero of Homer.

Zakynthos
The
name Zakynthos, as Homer mentioned it, was the name of the son of King of Troy,
Dardanos. Zakynthos arrived in the island from the Arcadian city of Psofida and
settled (in the island) around 1500 BC, when he built the homonymous city.
The settlers named the acropolis of the island, Psofida to remind them of their
country. It is believed that the first inhabitants were Achaeans but according
to Plinio the island was first inhabited before 3000 BC and was named Hyria by
the former settler and hero Hyriea, who came from Hyria to Viotia.

Aegean Islands
When
people think of the Greek islands, they generally think of the Aegean islands.
The Aegean islands, as the name implies, are the islands that lie east of Greek
between Turkey and Greece in the Aegean Sea.

Cyclades
The
Cyclades are the stereotypical white washed islands with box like houses and
very colorful domes.
They get their name because they form a circle around the island of Delos.
Delos was the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis and thus was a very important
cultural and spiritual center in antiquity.
Dodecanese
The
Dodecanese are located in the southeastern Aegean and get their name from the
fact that there are twelve islands in this group.
Because of their location, close to the Turkish coast and of strategic
importance for the constant armies moving east (Roman, Greek, Venetian, French)
and West (Persian, Ottoman) they contain a pleasant mixture of eastern and
western architecture coexisting in harmony.
