Hello! We are Alexandra and Andreea.
Here are our souvenirs.
These handmade plates and mugs are from Horezu (Oltenia), a famous region in
Romania for its ceramics. We bought them from the Museum of the Romanian
Peasant (located in Bucharest) four years ago when our class visited it.
Modeling
clay becomes a real art in the hands of old masters around Horezu. Their
handmade plates, mugs and pitchers display specific colours (especially
white, rich brown and grey and sometimes green) and symbolic motifs. One of
the most popular is the Rooster and another one is the Fish. Geometric
patterns are also specific to Horezu ceramics. They are skillfully painted
using cow horns and goose feathers.

Hello! My name is Francesca.
These are two holy icons I bought from Agapia Monastery
this summer. Situated in Moldavia (12 km south-west from Targu Neamt, Romania),
this monastery is very old and beautiful. It was founded by Gavril Hatmanul (a
leader of army) and his wife Lady Liliana and dedicated in 1647. It was painted
inside by Nicolae Grigorescu, a famous Romanian painter.

Hello! My name is Alina. Here is my
souvenir.
This
is a painted egg from Marginea village, Suceava county. This is a well-known
region for its skillful artisans who paint eggs which are famous worldwide.
I bought this egg four years ago when my classmates and I
visited the Museum of the Romanian Peasant from Bucharest. There we saw a lot of
artisans and their painted eggs decorated with symbolic motifs (the spiral of
life, rich harvest, shepherd's walking stick, biblical scenes) and
geometric patterns.
Thanks to these wonderful craftsmen and craftswomen our traditions are
well-preserved and handed down from generation to generation.

Hello! My name is
Victoria.
This is a postcard I received from Catalina, one of my
best friends. She bought it from St. Michael's Cathedral, Brussels, Belgium. You
can see this wonderful cathedral right in the middle of the postcard. It dates
back to the XIII th century. Duke Henry I of Brabant laid the foundation stone of
this building, which was finished under Charles V.
Catalina and our teacher of English
visited it on June 5th, 2003 when they were invited at the Spring Day
prize-giving ceremony.
