So far, there is only one phone company in Israel which deals with local calls, and it is called Bezeq. To purchase a phone line, call Bezeq.

Bezeq Phone Number: 135

Bezeq Internet Address: www.bezeq.com

Bezeq Hebrew Israeli Telephone Directory:
On a regular telephone, dial 144 to get the phone number of anyone in the country. On the internet, go to Bezeq's site  and click the icon "144".   This service works only in Hebrew.

Making International Calls

To get deals on international phone calls (like calling your parents abroad) it is very worthwhile for you to sign up with a server. If you call abroad directly without signing up with a server, you will pay much higher rates than need be, even if you use their line. For example, just starting your international call with “1-012“ will not give you “Golden Lines” special rates if you did not officially sign up with them! There are three servers in Israel:

Name: Bezeq International (001)
Inernet address: www.bezeqint.co.il

Name: Golden Lines/Kavei Zahav (012)
Telephone to sign up: 1-800-012-012
You can sign up over the internet.
Internet address: www.goldenlines.co.il
To look up their rates for any country in the world, go to this site, click "tikshoret meha'aretz", click "taarifei chiyug", and then choose the country you want.

 Name: Barak International (013)
Telephone to sign up: 1-800-013-013
You can sign up over the internet
Internet address: www.barak-online.net
To look up their rates for any country in the world, go to this site and click "taarifon sichot"  and then choose the country you want.

Here is a chart of rates to various cities only if you sign (if you don’t sign the prices are higher even if you use their line) as on November 2001. Prices are in Shekels per minute:

 Pay Phones

Pay phones require a special card called a Telecard, which can be purchased at post offices, newspaper stands and vending machines. Post offices charge the lowest price, while the others charge according to their discretion. Telecards are sold in units of 20, 50, 120 and 200. Each unit lasts a different amount of time, according to the time of day, but average  five minutes.

Call 188 for collect calls or dial direct using a Telecard. Your Telecard will run down quickly, so make sure you have enough units. You can also use the following toll free numbers:
