| The OCC Finals will feature three formats of play, plus a trivia element. Players will start out by writing a Magic Trivia test. The results of this test will be used as the primary tiebreaker for any ties that happen in the tournament. They will then play Standard (Type 2) for three rounds. After this they will be broken into pods to build decks from a Duplicate Sealed cardpool, where each player in a pod is given the same cards to build a deck from. These decks will contain commons and uncommons from the Kamigawa block. They will play three rounds with these decks, then switch back to Standard for two more rounds. At the end of the final round of Standard, we will cut to top 8, who will sit down for a cube draft. They will then play off for final standings and prizes. Additionally, at the end of the Swiss rounds, we will take the match points from the top three members of each team (determined by their origin store) and add them together. The team with the highest total will be awarded rare DCI foils, one per player and one for their store, as well as a plaque for the store. An additional foil will be awarded to the highest score from the trivia contest. Information for qualified players The OCC Finals will be run on August 20th at Dueling Grounds in Toronto. Details on location will be provided shortly. The OCC Finals are not sanctioned, but will be run at REL 3, the same as is used for PTQs. Cheating in any form will not be tolerated, and will result in your expulsion from the tournament. If you have any questions, please e-mail them to me at ontariocitychallenge <at> hotmail.com. The Magic Trivia test will cover all aspects of the game. Further details on this test will not be forthcoming. Information on the Standard format (including a banned list) can be found here. Note that, by the time of the OCC finals, Saviours of Kamigawa will be legal and the base set will likely be Ninth Edition, not Eighth. Cube draft is a booster draft format where, instead of opening sealed packs, packs are created from a card pool of some of the most powerful cards in Magic. Packs will be provided to the players, but the cards will be expected back after the tournament. |
