Arrival Name Explanation
ZIGGY3 There are two ways to working this arrival.  First is, by doing it the chart way which can be difficult to some, or by doing it by taking them off of the arrival with radar vectors after MAJEK.  This explanation will cover taking them off of the arrival way.
EHF Transition Landing West
1) Aircraft are received with the instructions to cross MAJEK at and maintain 15000ft, 250kts, as depicted on the diagram. On initial contact, they need to be instructed to fly heading 120, descend and maintain 8000.
2) As the aircraft approaches the D22/PDZ R-005, they need to then be instructed to fly heading 160, and It is your job as the controller to gauge his descend per the MVA.
3) Now would be a great time to have them reduce speed 220kts, or 190kts or less for their turn to final coming up. Once the target is clear of the 6000ft MVA, you must instruct the pilot to descend and maintain 4000ft.
4) When the aircraft is approximating 2nm abeam LOC 26L/R, Nearing PETIS, clear them for their respective approach. The aircraft needs to fly heading 230 to intercept the LOC.
Landing East Explanation starts with aircraft on a heading of 160 at 8000ft.
1) As the aircraft crosses the 6000 MVA area, instruct them to descend and maintain 5000ft.  As the aircraft nears the PETIS intersection, instruct the aircraft to turn right heading 210 direct PDZ VOR.
2) Aircraft need to be instructed to depart PDZ heading 270.
3) At the 11DME of the PDZ R-270, aircraft need to be turned right heading 340, and instructed to descend and maintain 3000ft.  Nearing 2NM abeam the LOC for the ILS 8L approach, aircraft need to be given an approach clearance for 8L.
HEC Transition Landing West
1) Aircraft are received with the instructions to cross DAWNA at 12000ft.  On initial contact, they need to be instructed to cross ARRAN at 8000ft.
2) Departing ARRAN they need to be coming down to 6000.  But don't clear them too early or you will bust the MVA's.  If needed, turn them southbound so they can get down in time for the ILS approach to 26L/R.
3) When clear of the 6000ft MVA, give them down to 4000.  Nearing PETIS, clear them for their respective approach.
Landing East Explanation starts with aircraft crossing ARRAN
1) Aircraft will be flying direct to PDZ vor.  As the aircraft nears the ZIGGY intersection, instruct the aircraft to cross PDZ at 5000ft.
2) Aircraft need to be instructed to depart PDZ heading 270.  As the aircraft nears the 11DME on the PDZ R-270 the aircraft needs to then be instructed to fly heading 340.
3) As the aircraft nears 2NM abeam the LOC for 8L, they need to be given an approach clearance for 8L.
SETER2
Landing West
1) Aircraft are received with instructions to cross BANDS at 14000ft (PSP.SETER2), or ROTHY at 12000ft (JLI.SETER2).  On initial contact instruct the aircraft to cross SETER at 9000.
2) Departing SETER, the aircraft needs to be instructed to cross PETIS at or above 4200ft.  Nearing PETIS, clear them for their respective approach.
3) On a slow day, it is perfectly legal to on initial contact to inform a pilot to proceed direct to PETIS, cross PETIS at or above 4200, cleared ILS 26L (or 26R) approach.  Slow day meaning, no other traffic within ONT APP airspace, and no traffic inbound via the ZIGGY3 arrival or SLI arrival gate into ONT.
Landing East
1) Aircraft are received with instructions to cross BANDS at 14000ft (PSP.SETER2), or ROTHY at 12000ft (JLI.SETER2).  On initial contact instruct the aircraft to cross SETER at 9000.
2) As the aircraft departs SETER, inform them that they need to cross PDZ at 5000ft, departing PDZ heading 270 vectors for the ILS 8L approach.
3) With the aircraft reaching the bounder / 11DME west of PDZ, turn him to a heading of 340, and descend and maintain 3000ft.  2NM Abeam the LOC 8L, turn them right to intercept the loc with an ILS approach clearance for 8L.
SLI
Landing West
1) Aircraft are received by CST TRACON dir to PDZ VOR.  On initial contact the aircraft needs to be instructed to cross PDZ at 5000, depart PDZ heading 050 for the ILS 26L or 26R approach.  When the aircraft is near the 11DME NE of PDZ, he needs to be at 4200, then turned left to intercept the loc with an approach clearance for the respective runway.
Landing East
1) Aircraft are received by CST TRACON dir to PDZ VOR.  On initial contact the aircraft needs to be instructed to turn left heading 320.  The aircraft needs to cross the 11DME PDZ R-270 at or above 3000 for the ILS 8L approach.  Approaching 2nm abeam the LOC for 8L, the aircraft needs to be given an approach clearance for 8L.
