Welcome!
We are pupils at Our Lady & St. John Catholic Arts College, Blackburn
LANCASHIRE. At the moment there are around 40 of us. We meet in three groups at
the moment. Every Monday lunchtime, "regulars" from Years 8 to 10 gather in the
Maths area to play
chess, fighting for places on the ladder. On Tuesdays, after school an elite
group of enthusiasts (about 10 of us), exchange moves and re-play famous or
not-so-famous games under the guidance of our coach, Dave Gaston. Finally, every
Thursday our new Year 7 players meet together to play. These are the "new guys
on the block". The rest of the club is very excited as we have several new young
players who currently play for Lancashire Juniors. In 2/3 weeks, the two
lunchtime groups will meet!!
We hope to use this website to improve our skills and increase our
opportunities to play! Please spend a few moments looking around the site and

WHAT DO WE HAVE TO OFFER?
At the moment we are just breaking new ground! We want to keep all our members
informed of our "Ladder" positions and any local events that might be available
to them - see NEWS .....
Eventually we hope to publish quizzes, skill tips and maybe even have a live
(on-line) chess game!
Volunteers with time and web-skills should feel particularly welcome at this
stage.
However if you are a beginner we want you to feel equally at home. You're in
good company with us.
