Dave Gaston - O.L.S.J. "Grand Master" and Tutor
Tuesday sessions with Dave are going well with a regular strong turnout by
O.L.S.J. club members. This next few weeks we hope to set up some competition
dates, so Dave's expertise is much appreciated by potential team Players.
Dave returns for another term
Each Tuesday after school in G16 the chess club meets for tutorial sessions
led by Dave Gaston from Lancashire Chess Association. Keen players are welcome
to join us. Ask for details at the lunchtime sessions.

New members always welcome. No charge.
Chess Club Meets:
1. THURSDAY lunchtime 12.40pm - 1.10pm G6
Year 7 pupils only!
Ladder games - All levels of ability - Loads of fun!

2. TUESDAY afternoon 3.15pm - 4.45pm G16
Tutoring for the team by Dave Gaston (Lancashire County Player)
Others members interested in advanced tutoring speak to Mrs Higginson.
3. Monday lunchtime 12. 30pm - 1.10pm
Regular lunchtime sesssion for all pupils. Come along and have a game with a
team member or a beginner!!
4. North East Lancashire Schools League
A team made up of O.L.S.J. Chess Club members represents the school in The North
East Lancashire Schools Chess League. League matches are normally played after
school. Home or Away.

5. Lancashire Chess Association Chess Congress
About 4 - 5 times a year 200 chess enthusiasts of all ages up to 18yrs. battle
it out, play 8 games and get graded (from Pawns, right through all the pieces to
Kings).
Your chance to get spotted by the big wigs who decide who'll play for
Lancashire.
