San Franciscao Shrine

Newsletter of the Capuchin Franciscan Province of Our Lady of the Angels

Vol.XXII, No.1

On Oct. 4, 1999 the City of St. Francis, San Francisco celebrated the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Church of St. Francis. Even more, the City celebrated the new status of the small church as the new National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi. This is the oldest church in San Francisco with the exception of Old Mission Dolores. Presiding at the Mass was Archbishop Lavada, Fr. Allen Ramrez, Provincial of the Conventual Franciscan Friars of CA, and our own Fr. Ron Talbott, Provincial of the Capuchins of the West. The friars from Assisi sent the new shrine an oil lamp from the tomb of St. Francis to remind us all of the bond that exists between these two sacred places. The Shrine is under the care of the Conventual Friars.
