New Name, New Titles and New Faces

The formation program in Wilmington, Del. celebrates its second anniversary on August 30, 1999 with a new name. Officially named the "Investiture Program," the participating Capuchin Provinces (St. Augustine PA, St. Conrad Mid-Am, Stigmata NJ and Our Lady of Angels WAP) send their future novices there to participate in a 3-month, intensified experience of Capuchin life preparing them to be invested in the Capuchin habit. No longer considered "postulants," and having already been accepted for the upcoming Novitiate year, they receive the title "Brother" and are given an external symbol to wear in their ministry. Focusing on Community Life, the brothers cook, clean, pray, meditate, do manual labor, attend classes, read, spend time alone in quiet and meet regularly with their formation advisor. Three days a week the brothers work with the local Capuchins in the Ministry of Caring. Their Novice Master, Br. David Nestler, will come to Wilmington to invest the Brothers in their Capuchin habits during evening prayer on Saturday November 27, 1999. The program officially ends for them and the follwing day they travel to Allison Park PA to continue their formation in the Novitiate.
