| [OH SNAP! RECORDS NUMBER THREE] everysmithever. "sleep" demo-lp. Recorded April/May 2003. the follow up the the 9-song "honest" ep, recorded on april 9th, here was a chance for chris to record with my new better mic, haha. the material on this effort is a lot more varied than the demo. there's a lot of weird fucking around (like random short bouts into falsetto and other little things a little out of the norm of this whole sort of personal emo-y acoustic solo genre) and experimenting with stuff. i didn't know what to think at first, since i knew a lot of the songs the way he played them before, but, hell, i like it now. all the random quirks in the songs make it a lot more similar to the live experience, when chris puts on a show for his friends. he jokes around a little, and he's not afraid to do the same on this. yet somehow the emotion in the sadder songs really doesn't feel at all diminished. you may notice a few of the songs from the ep are on here too. yeah, they're newer versions (some of them much newer). chris really went all out on this, in a whole bunch of directions, and without sucking! yeah, there's a crazy sassy song about a fictitious little boozer named lucy (with a spanish castillian accent, even!) and a blues ballad with way personal metaphoric lyrics that made me go like "damn..." heh, yeah. then there's track's like the live version of "sleep" at the little highschool talent-show rehearsal thing on april 10th. the minidisc recorder got a little fucked up, so there's a little bit of skippage at the very end, but it's such an intense rendition of the song that chris and i thought it deserved to be included. HAHAHA, oh, man, i almost forgot. following suit from the ep, there's an extra little track stuck at the end for funny sake. holy crap, fucking the man, mr. ronnie reynolds (as "khronic kaos") layin down a little rap about a certain day "in the month of september," a day on which perhaps one of the greatest catch phrases in the history of man was donned: "YEEEEAH!" (it's all in the pronounciation, kids.) this 20-odd second piece of funny is probably only gonna make sense to like 20 kids ever, hahaha, and only 10 will really get it. but to those fews kids it's fuckin funny! |
