  • Here at the Oh Rats Rattery we strive for the "betterment of the breed" or to help bring into the world the best pet rat that is possible. We have a few simple rules to help us with this and we'd like to post them for all possible adopters to see. So without further adieu please read below our secret to success.

  • Any rats that have birth defects are never considered for our breeding program.
  • Any rat that has shown to give birth to babies with defects is immediately taken out of the program.
  • Any rats shown to have any sort of chronic ailment are immediately taken out of breeding program or more commonly not considered at all.
  • All females must show absolute docility and allow their babies to be handled from birth without biting or they will be permanently retired.
  • All rats must show perfect temperament to be considered for breeding. They must not show any kind of aggression - not towards people or other rats.
  • Any lines that show health or temperament problems at a later age are considered and most often approved for discontinuation.
  • Females are usually bred for the first time at around 8 months, after they are done growing and have shown they've stayed healthy.
  • Males with outstanding health and/or great age are encouraged to breed for the sake of longevity.
  • Babies are always handled within the first three days of life. Babies temperament and health are tracked so their line can be judged accordingly.
