Rattery Announcements

July 24, 2007

In my ten years of rat ownership and breeding I've never had a real "oops" litter. I guess my good fortune has faded with my abscence in the rattery world. It looks like another one of the furless may be pregnant and I found out I did a real stupid oops! Prior to leaving for my week-long vacation I received two groups of rats that I literally only had time to set up before I left. I always sex incoming animals but on that day I didn't. Turns out one of the four cages of DRR rats had a pair that was male and female and of age. They are both dumbo - no idea if they are related but i am in the process of asking. I have seperated them... if anyone's looking for a heavily marked black dumbo baby let me know (this is what I suspect the majority of the litter will be.)

We've decided to get back into the rat business for good! Today I have started building this temporary website.

We have welcomed Ambrosia, a very docile fawn hooded dumbo to our crew along with her 15 offspring. She's currently also nursing the six surviving furless dumbo babies and doing a fine job.

We are down to 6 surviving furless dumbo babies. Their mothers appear to be having difficulty lactating.

We have added two wonderful additions to our rattery - Socrates a PEW rex and BellaDonna an adorable little blue berkshire dumbo. They are in quarantine with the others and will likely be part of the breeding program when they are older.

A second furless dumbo gave birth to fourteen little bubs.

One of the furless dumbos had a litter of three. One was stillborn.

Due to an incredibly strange set of circumstances we have taken in two relatively large groups of rats - 16 furless and dumbo furless off a private party (some of the females may be pregnant due to missexing prior to coming here) and fifteen rats from DRR who will be put up for adoption soon along with many of the furless and furless dumbos.
