07.09.05 O’CARROLLS
FC INAUGURAL SPORTS QUIZ NIGHT – September 06 2005
Our
first Quiz Night was a big success for the club, thanks to Tim, Gus & Matt
for their hard work in getting it off the ground; thanks to O’Carrolls Bar and
staff for hosting us; and special thanks to everybody who came along to support
the night, it was very much appreciated. Dave Walsh and his team ‘Paul
Tancell, Centre Forward; - Yeah Right!’ took the $100 bar tab – I don’t
reckon it lasted long, the Irishman has a big swallow, although I spotted him
ducking off home at about 11pm with several packets of crisps under his arm.
It’s a novel way of spending the winnings. Commiserations to those who didn’t
win – apparently one Herald On Sunday sports journalist wasn’t best pleased
about finishing runner-up. A second place tiebreak pitted Dave Edge & co
against Alex Bell’s team in a drink-off. Paul Gibbons was hot favourite to
finish off the half pint first, but in a strange turn of events he decided to
tip the beer over his head instead. This allowed Dave’s team to sneak in for
second place spot along with a round of rather foul shots. A good night was had
by all, and we were encouraged by the turnout. Hopefully this will be a monthly
occurrence, we’ll keep you posted.

02.09.05 6-A-SIDE
RESULT SEPT 01 – O’Carrolls
FC 4 – 0 Volcanics
Like
the last time we played this team, it was a pretty physical game – both teams
gave as good as they got. With Tim pulling out late because of injury, we had
the bare six of Matt, Tom, Paul T, Gus, Neville & Paul G. Unlike the last couple
of games, it took us a while to get into this one, but top-scorer Nevchenko
eventually opened the scoring with a neat finish; that’s 12 goals in seven
games. Paul T continued his record of scoring in every game, he remains 2 goals
behind Nev. Gibbo got back amongst the scorers with yet another bullet effort
from his left foot, that’s seven for him, while Gus has definitely found the
scoring touch, another last night brings him to four. Matt showed that he’s up
to it with some outstanding saves to keep Volcanics scoreless. He’ll be a great
addition to our 11-A-Side squad. Tom’s (that’s me) record of scoring one goal
per ten games is now blown, he’s off to the Emerald Isle for a few weeks, so he
will miss the final three games of the round. We’re on a seven game winning
streak, and with Hold The Phone, Internationale, & Hamstrung to come, we
need to be at our best. A win next week against Hold The Phone would put us in
a strong position to win the group, if the players we have can produce what
they are capable of, ten in a row isn’t out of the question. Best of luck lads!
