     28.10.05      6-A-SIDE RESULT OCT 27 – O’Carrolls 1 – 0 Internationale

As I said before, this was a crucial game for O’Carrolls hopes of qualifying to the top group in the next round of games. Our performances the last couple of weeks, particularly against Shaolin, were poor to say the least; we were meeting a quality team in Inter and we really needed to improve our standard of football. We started pensively but eventually got our passing together. It was a great game to be involved in, both sides had their chances; there really wasn’t a lot between the two. Inter were denied a number of times by Richie who was in outstanding form last night, a quality save early in the second half worthy of a mention. It was Neville who got the winning goal early in the second half, the battle between him & Gibbo for top scorer continues from the last round, both now on four goals each. This win puts us in a strong position; we’re left requiring a result against ECONZ next week. Confidence should be restored after this victory; hopefully we can build on it and get back to the form that saw us win the last round.

     25.10.05      6-A-SIDE RESULT OCT 20 – O’Carrolls 1 – 1 Shaolin FC

Probably the worst game of ball any of us have been involved in for quite some time. Shaolin had two players sent off in a very heated affair. All said, we had our chances to win the game, two missed penalties proved very costly, and the posts were rattled a couple of times. With Shaolin down to four players, calm heads were required in the last five minutes to grab the winner, but in honesty, we probably panicked a bit, and it finished a point apiece. Paul Tancell scored our only goal of the game, a deft flick on to the far post. Thanks to Inter & Woftam (see last week) for their support from the stands, it’s great when rival teams get behind each other. As for Shaolin, they were there to fight, not play football. It got them a point, but I for one have little respect for the team. Up next, Internationale; we’re equal on points at the top of the table, O’Carrolls ahead on goal difference. A crucial game for us I think, we need to get back to playing some good football and this would be the game in which to do it. We’ve got the players capable of it, we’ve proven that before, now’s the time to show it.

     14.10.05      6-A-SIDE RESULT OCT 13 – O’Carrolls 6 – 0 Woftam

The good start continued last night with a victory over Woftam. Three goals from Nevchenko, and a goal a piece for Dave Walsh, Gus and Keith were enough to see off the lads in green. Considering the majority of the team wasn’t pleased with the performance, to win by such a big margin shows the quality within the side. Next week, at the late late time of 9.55pm, we face The Team Formerly Known As Sars, Shaolin FC. Last week they took a point off Internationale so let’s not underestimate them.

     07.10.05      6-A-SIDE RESULT OCT 06 – O’Carrolls 7 – 1 Headless Chooks

It was a winning start to the campaign with a 7 – 1 victory over the Chooks last night. We’re agreed that it wasn’t our best performance (in fact we looked like headless chooks ourselves at times… BA BOOM! Surprised I’ve only just used that one!) A great start saw us go two goals up within the opening minutes but the Chooks hit back, albeit through a lucky deflection, and we kind of lost our way for a while. It was a physical game; the ref surprisingly let a lot go where usually he’d have awarded free kicks. Four goals from Gibbo sees him race off in the battle for top scorer, Paul Tancell inevitably got himself on the score sheet, as did Keith with a terrific strike from distance. A cheeky free kick from Tim with about 10 seconds on the clock completed the scoring for the night. With nine players in the squad this time round, we’ve had to introduce a rotation policy (well, if it works for Chelsea…). This will see two players standing down each week, we’ll draw names from a hat I guess. So we’ve set our stall out, Woftam next week, and like everybody else, they’ll want to beat us. Till then.
