What was it like growing up surfing in a small place like Brighton?
Craig) It was good, there
were a lot of good waves that weren’t crowded and the ones who were into
it would stay at the beach for hours no matter what the waves were like.
Hayden)
You don’t travel out of Brighton to surf much, is that because the area
is so consistent?
Craig) Yeh. Everyone thinks
that St Clair is the best surf in Dunno’s but it’s over crowded and has
crappy waves. Down the coast where I live the waves are better and less
crowded, just us local guys.
Hayden)
You seem to be equally as good at DK and prone. Which is your favourite
and why?
Craig) It depends what the
surf is like. If the waves are peeling and have flat faces I will get up
on the knee but I don’t really have a favourite.
Hayden)
You’ve recently traveled to Oz, how were the waves?
Craig) We went to Coolangatta
and the first day there was a 6ft swell and Kirra was maxing out as well
as D’bah. The swell dropped the next day and Greenmount Search was sick.
The rest of the trip we were surfing D’bah which was pretty consistent
for a week with 3-4ft peaks, insane barrels, warm water, beautiful chicks
but the place had about 300+ in the line up by 7am. Saw Barney, Marcus
Lane and Occy ripping. The local Boogers rip too.
Hayden)
Any funny travel stories?
Craig) Just the usual drunken
antics which were caught on video. New Years Eve went off. Just causing
trouble at the hotel when we were drunk was the norm.

What are your goals in Bodyboarding?
Craig) Travel back to Aussie
at the end of 2000. Also 1st in the U18 South Island Champs this year would
be good. |
