You have pretty much come at of nowhere and made a big impression on the
NZ contest scene with some good contest results in the last year, are you
stoked?
John) Yeah,
pretty stoked. I don’t know about good comp results cause I keep on coming
second to David Campbell, but yeah I'm pretty stoked.

You haven't been doing prone much lately how come?
John) I've been focusing
on my DK lately I need to get more consistent with my moves, but I still
prone lots especially when there are right handers with good air sections
on them.

You and Hemi Holden were the only bodyboarders at the Raglan surfing Academy
this year, what was that like?
John) It
was cool, got tones of waves, more than where I come from (Whangarei).
But there are a lot of things that go on that people don't hear about that
are gay. But it improved mine and Hemi’s bodyboarding quite a lot.

Did you get many hassles from the local surfers?
John) Lots of hassles when
we first moved to Rags but then got to know all the surfers worth talking
to and they are all pretty stoked on bodyboarding. It's only the kooks
who can't get there heads around why Bodyboarders can stay in the barrel
longer than there big hunched over poo stances (not the cool surfers Leon,
Luke and the boys)

What do you like most about surfing at Raglan?
John) Its really good for
Dk if you want to work on it because it is kind of fat 65% of the
time apart from when its Ledging or the Valley is working.

I hear that you are a bit of chick magnet?
John) Nah, don't know what
you are talking about. I have never kissed a girl in my life. I've heard
that when you do kiss one though you go all tingly and feel really funny
(I can't wait!!)

Rumours have it that you have your own secret spot (pics in Gallery), tell
us about it?
John) Yeah, a secret reef
called Muffs. It's a hell barrel then the best bowl you have ever seen
for launching out of. Its real consistent and only a selected few know
it's full potential and that's how we like it.
