This year (1999) has been a successful year for you (National champ &
winning many other comps) are you stoked?
Dwayne)
Yeah, it's been good for me. Only I wish I could be as dedicated as Ben
MacKinnon. It's been great to see him so focussed. Hopefully he won't be
alone much longer.
Ed)
What do you feel are the keys to becoming a successful competitor?
Dwayne)
Being able to link moves without groveling. I think to be a more versatile
bodyboarder will help to succeed.

Ed)
Do you have any future plans to compete overseas in the G.O.B or any other
comps?
Dwayne)
I'd really like to travel. Competing is something I do so that I can receive
boards & gear for free. I'd rather free surf though. It would be good
to see how I would go though.
Ed)
You live in Wellington, what are the waves like there?
Dwayne)
There are good waves at home. You just have to wait and see when the swell
comes. Best Waves are 4ft Lyle Bay Wall, 4ft Breaker bay and over at the
Wairapa coast.
Ed)
I heard a rumour that you and Pano stayed with Kainoa McGee while you were
in Hawaii, what was that like?
Dwayne)
It was funny because everyone that he introduced us to were pro's. He's
the coolest guy and he took awesome care of us. He was ripping when he
took us out. Dropkneed the nicest waves. Got plenty of waves for me because
everyone respects him so much. That was probably the best reason for staying
with us.
Ed)
What are your plans for this year?
Dwayne)
Save and travel. I'd really like to surf some good waves overseas. Start
to dedicate myself more into surfing and getting better at bodyboarding
altogether.
Ed)
Anything else you would like to add?
Dwayne)
I'd like to see bodyboarding grow as we have for the last four years and
I'd also like to see younger guys dedicate themselves and go on the G.O.B. |
