This year instead of “furthering’ your education, you’ve taken a year off
to do what?
Aidan) I’m working and saving
up some $$$ to go traveling. I will still be “furthering” my education
but in a more practical way by seeing the world.
Hayden)
You have an amazing contest record, how about sharing your strategy?
Aidan) I used to train hard
out before a comp but now I’m sort of over doing that. Now I find I do
well if I’m in a happy frame of mind, just having fun and enjoying surfing
instead of being all hard out.
Hayden)
You seem to be concentrating on Dropknee lately. What’s the story?
Aidan) I just find it more
exciting at the moment and it’s just a good alternative when the waves
aren’t really doing it. At the moment I get more stoked with a Dropknee
cuttie than an ARS.
Hayden)
You’ve traveled quite a bit. Where and where next?
Aidan) In New Zealand I’ve
been to Kaitia, Gissy, Tara’s and all over the Mainland. Overseas I’ve
been to England, Hawaii, Indo and Rarotonga. In June I’m going to New Caledonia
and then hopefully the Gold Coast.

How do Dunedin’s waves compare with other waves throughout the country
and other countries you’ve traveled to?
Aidan) Dunedin’s sick!!
If you’ve got a car you can score good waves almost every day. I’d say
we have some of the best beach breaks in the world down here and they’re
always uncrowded!

I’ve seen you do some pretty weird stuff like going for a run through Queenstown
at 3.00am. What’s next?
Aidan) Aaaaha!!! The pressures
of a Geography field trip eh! That’s what happens when I get landlocked
for more than two days, I start doing weird things.
