We have been married for over twenty years and are blessed with two beautiful daughters. As a family we enjoy fine dining at home and both of our daughters are accomplished in the kitchen. Carolyn is a world class cook (OK I'm a little biased).
My wine awakening started in the 1970's when I traveled to Napa Valley each year on vacation. There I would revel in the wineries and restaurants. I did not know about the Paris Wine Tasting at the time, just that I was drinking some pretty cool wine. I look back fondly of those times now and realize that the Cabernet and Chardonnay I enjoyed those many years ago was a great foundation for my wine education.
When Carolyn and I first started dating we would go to out to eat at The Seafood Broiler in Southern California. We would order steamed clams, shrimp on a skewer and enjoy our meal with a bottle of Chateau Ste Michelle Johannesburg Riesling. We have been fans of the Chateau ever since.
After our children were born our interest in wine tapered off until recently.
We renewed our love of wine in 2002. It was at a large dinner with about 25 people. Dave (see bio) decided that he and I should choose wine for the table, remembering the stories I told him of my trips to Napa. Everyone loved the wines and our interest in wine was rekindeled.
Our wine collection covers a diverse selection, the largest being from the Northwest, Napa-Sonoma, Australia and France which includes selections from Chablis, Bordeaux and the Rhone. We average between 600-700 bottles in storage at any one time. We do not have a formal cellar, but do have a large room downstairs that we dedicate partially to our wine. We are able to control the temperature there passively and this seems to work fine for our needs.
