The Tasting Panel was started in September of 2003 when Kevin and I were looking for something to do on Tuesday nights. Our significant others had weekly meetings of their own and we thought this would be a good opportunity to do something together.
Vino Mercato; an Italian marketplace, deli and wine tasting bar, had just opened in August of that year. We were acquaintances of the owners from wine tasting around town and thought this would be a great place to expand our knowledge of wine. So it was that Kevin and I started going every Tuesday. The Tasting Panel started out as a joke one evening when we quipped that we had "The Tuesday Evening Breakfast Club". But before long an actual weekly group started to emerge. With our small group of friends established, we started branching out, meeting at other social gatherings and having wine dinners and get togethers at each others houses. Vino Mercato has since closed but our group goes on.
This simple beverage, friendship and the desire to learn more about ourselves and our passions is what The Tasting Panel is all about.
