This FAQ is merely a supplement to the information that can be obtained from the Rules and Planet Wrestling Universe pages, as well as the Main Page of the Planet Wrestling site. As such, it is highly reccomended that you read those over before reading through this page. It will be assumed that you have read those pages before proceeding.

The following is a growing listing of questions that we've come across with some frequency here at Planet Wrestling. It has been complied so that you might be able to get the answers you're looking for without even having to send an e-mail and wait for your response (imagine the convenience!). If you still have questions about Planet Wrestling after reading through these questions and answers, then you may e-mail Co-President Rob by clicking here.

NOTE: Many of the questions and answers below are geared toward the begining player or players in general. Those questions directed at anyone other than a player will specifically say so.

QUESTIONS (in no particular order):

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

Q: What is Planet Wrestling? What goes on here? How does Planet Wrestling work?

A: Planet Wrestling is an e-mail based, fantasy pro wrestling federation, where matches are decided though players' roleplays. In simpler terms, it is a largely text-based game that is played through e-mails that are sent back and forth. Here, players assume and play the roles of fictional wrestlers of their own design. Planet Wrestling (PW) will often be referred to as an "e-federation", or a "fed" or "e-fed" for short, and is one of many, many "e-feds" on the Internet today. In Planet Wrestling, as in many e-feds, matches between the players' characters take place during scheduled events called cards, which are written by members of our staff. These matches are decided on the basis of players' roleplaying prior to the cards "taking place". (back to questions)

Q: Who's in charge around here, anyway?

A: Planet Wrestling is a product of the work of several players and staff members, but is run with Co-President Rob Michaud primarily "at the helm", so to speak. He's the man "in charge" of things. (back to questions)

Q: Hey Rob, what's your ICQ and/or AIM number?

A: Co-President Rob does not have ICQ or AIM, only e-mail. If you really feel you need to have a "live" conference with Rob, then he's usually willing to set up appointments, via e-mail, to meet in the PW OOC Chat, if he has the time. (back to questions)

Q: What is e-wrestling?

A: E-wrestling is a internet hobby based on wrestling, usually professional wrestling. A huge number of different games, called "e-federations" or "e-feds" exist on the Internet, each different in their own way and with their own sets of rules. For more information about e-wrestling, roleplaying in e-wrestling, and how to be successful in e-wrestling, I'd also suggest that you refer to the following sources:

(back to questions)

Q: How do I win matches?

A: In Planet Wrestling, matches are decided on the basis of players roleplaying for their character(s). Once a match is scheduled, each player will send out a number of roleplays for their character(s) via our Flash link, which can be found on the main page. Once the roleplaying deadline is reached, judges decide which player submitted the overall better set of roleplays and on this basis, decide the winners of matches. Quantity of roleplaying plays a part in who wins matches, but quality always comes before quality when it comes to judging match winners. Also coming into play, to a small degree, are strategies for matches, which can be sent in via a link on the main page. (note that some other e-feds use other systems for judging their winners, such as simulators and dice-rolling, but that Planet Wrestling does not use these methods) (back to questions)

Q: I'm writing roleplays, but why do I keep losing my matches? I did everything you said, but I'm still losing! How do I win matches?

A: That's a little more difficult to answer, but the best advice I can give is to keep practicing on your roleplaying (roleplay as much as you reasonably and sensibly can if you're really keen) and to face opponents that you feel are at your roleplaying level or below. There are a number of different skill levels in roleplaying, so you can't expect to beat all of the guys who are "at the top" all of the time, especially if you're just starting out. Just keep at it, and good things are bound to happen eventually. You may also want to read our roleplaying guides, as well as look around the Internet for various tips, hints and techniques for better roleplaying. Also, be sure to re-read the Rules page, so you can get some idea of just how your roleplays are being judged.

For further information and advice on better roleplaying, I'd advise you read over the material provided on the following pages, as much of the information they provide is useful roleplaying advice:

Q: So all I have to do is write written roleplays for my character that are better than those of my opponent, and I win matches? That's it? Isn't that just like one big writing contest?

A: That's all there is to it, really. As mentioned above, the quantity of roleplaying, as well as players' strategies are also considered, but it's always qality over quantity, with strategies usually coming in as tiebreakers at best. And yes, when it comes right down to it, Planet Wrestling matches are really an ongoing writing contest. (back to questions)

Q: What is roleplaying, how do I roleplay, and why should I roleplay?

A: Roleplaying, essentially, is getting into character. Roleplaying for Planet Wrestling is much like writing up a series of short scripts for your characters. Assuming that you've watched pro wrestling on TV, a roleplay might consist of you writing up a script for your character while they're doing an interview or something, much like what you'd see on television. Roleplays usually take the form of your character saying or doing something, but not typically of their being involved in any sort of match (matches are written by Planet Wrestling staff members). If you want to win matches in Planet Wrestling, the only way to do it is to best your opponent in roleplaying. Just as importantly, though, roleplaying should be used to develop your character. You may also want to refer to teh PW Rules page, if you haven't already.

Q: What is a strategy, and why should I send in a strategy for a card/ match?

A: Strategies can consist of just about anything that you would like your character to do during a card. Since players do not write cards, you can help your character(s) behave more how you would like them to when PW staff members are writing them into matches. So, besides helping you to win matches, strategies can go a long way to help develop your character(s).

Q: When do I get my title shot?

A: You'll get it when you get it, but it can take longer for some characters than for others, depending on a number of things, from current rivalries and storylines, to how well you and your peers are roleplaying. The general guideline is that when you're getting your character really noticed by players and staff alike, then a title shot usually isn't too far off. Just be patient, and title shots come eventually. Remember though, that titles aren't everything by any means, and that titles ARE NOT what e-wrestling is all about. You should be here to have fun, not win titles. (back to questions)

Q: Once I write a roleplay, what do I do with it?

A: If you have completed a player application and have been accepted, then you will be sending your roleplays out to the rest of the fed via the Flash link, which can be found on the main page. (back to questions)

    Q: Where's the roleplay board?

A: There isn't any: Planet Wrestling uses an e-mail system to distribute its roleplays. All roleplays go out via the Flash link, which can be found on the main page. (back to questions)

Q: Can I have more than one wrestler?

A: Well, the question you should really be asking yourself is "can I handle roleplaying for more than one distinct wrestler"? If you feel that you can sufficiently roleplay for more than one unique character, then power to ya'. More than one wrestler is allowed in Planet Wrestling. (back to questions)

Q: The part of the page that I tried to look at isn't working... What should I do?

A: If ever a section of the Planet Wrestling homepage is down, please wait a while, check it again, and then, if it's still not working for you, please let Co-President Rob know. (back to questions)

Q: Can I be a member of the Planet Wrestling staff AND handle a wrestler at the same time?

A: ABSOLUTELY! In fact, we'd encourage it, if you feel up to the job. We're ALWAYS in the need of more match writers, so we'd especially like you to take on that position if you feel capable of it. Take a look at the Staff Application for more information. (back to questions)

Q: Will I get accepted if I submit my wrestler?

A: There's only one way to find out! The general rule, though, is that if you submit an original character, showing that you've put some thought into your creation and that you demonstrate that you're at least somewhat comfortable roleplaying for this character, then chances are, you will be accepted (provided that we feel we can take in more new wrestlers at that time, of course). (back to questions)

Q: Do I HAVE TO fill out EVERYTHING on the application? (wrestler, staff, etc.)

A: Unless indicated otherwise, yes you do -- if parts are left incomplete, there's a good chance your application will be left unread and rejected without notice. I know that the character application, especially, is a bit long, but all of the questions are there for a good reason, and each of them serves a purpose. What we hope to achieve with the lengthy character application is getting you to think more about your character, not to mention the fact that everyone else gets a better impression of your character. In the long run, the length of the character application is for the player's benifit. (back to questions)

Q: I think you should use a message board for roleplays, instead of e-mail.

A: That's no a question. =) Seriously though, it's far more convenient for Co-President Rob to use have the fed work via e-mail. A message board would simply be more work for him, which would slow things down. If you're not keen on an e-mail based roleplaying system, there are hundreds of other e-feds out there who do use message boards. Some of them can be found on the Planet  Wrestling e-Fed Directory if you're interested in that kind of system. Also worth noting are the UWP Affiliate feds, many of which use roleplaying boards. (back to questions)

Q: When do I get my character's picture drawn for me?

A: When the artist gets to it. Demand for pictures is high, and they take time to make, so please be patient. It's NOT likely, though, that you'll get a portrait made immediately after you join or anything like that, mainly because we don't want people joining, getting their portrait, then heading out the door. (back to questions)

Q: Can I supply my own picture for my character?

A: Maybe (see regulations, later in this paragraph)... You can make arrangements to send the picture to Co-President Rob if you have a particular picture in mind (please don't send any picture files that are bigger than ONE MB!), or for quicker results, you can send Rob the a link to the picture on the Internet. From there, it will be either rejected, or accepted for inclusion on the page. If you're trying to get a picture accepted, it MUST be an original piece of artwork that is either uncopyrighted or is under your copyright, and it cannot be a "real life" photo/ image. If we're to even consider an image for a character, it has to be drawn/ painted/ rendered, or otherwise produced. We'll be more keen on accepting pictures that fit a style best described as "cartoony", though digitally rendered graphics are also acceptable. "Head and shoulder" kinds of portraits for characters are preferred. Please, no nudity or distasteful content in the pictures. (back to questions)

Q: I don't like your portraits. Where did you learn how to draw, anyway? If I don't want one of your stinkin' portraits for my character, do I have to take it anyway?

A: OK, so this isn't exactly something we get a lot of, but for anyone who doesn't want a portrait made for their character by us, or if you don't like the one that is made, then that's fine, that picture won't be included. HOWEVER, don't expect another picture to necessarily be drawn for you by Planet Wrestling to replace it. (back to questions)

Q: How much pay does a starting staff member get?

A: Pay? Ha ha ha ha ha!! Oh BOY! That's funny! (back to questions)

Q: No, seriously, what does a staff job pay here?

A: If you're looking for any sort of monetary compensation for working with Planet Wrestling, you're out of luck, friend. Planet Wrestling's staff are volunteers only. HOWEVER, we may be implementing a prize raffle for contributing staff members in the future. More news on that as things develop. (back to questions)

Q: I love the graphics for this site! Can you make graphics for my site? Can you make a webpage for me?

A: Unless you're willing to offer a salary, no. The graphic designers for Planet Wrestling are pretty busy, and don't have a lot of free time for side projects at the moment. If you are willing to offer money or other forms of compensation, tough, a deal might be able to be reached. Please send all such correspondance to Co-President Rob. (back to questions)

Q: Why are there so may rules in Planet Wrestling?!

A: The rules are in place for everyone's benefit. Most rules are made such that they make things easier and quicker to operate for the Co-Presidents and other members of the PW staff... As such, making their lives easier makes your e-fedding experience all that much smoother and better in the long run. (back to questions)

Q: How do I get a quote from my guy listed on the main page?

A: The quotes on the main page are selected by the PW Staff, as they see fit. If they feel something your character said is quote-worthy, then it'll be posted. (back to questions)

Q: When are your cards? When will the next card be?

A: In Planet Wrestling, we're big on putting out quality cards. Unfortunately, producing cards of such high quality takes time. As such, card in Planet Wrestling are not released very regularly, and definitly not according to any sort of set schedule. When all is going according to plan, we try to get a card out every week and a half to two weeks. Otherwise, cards come out when they come out. This may sound inconvenient, but I urge you to at least read one of our Throttle cards, to see that when Planet Wrestling releases a card, we do it right, and better than most.
