Note:  If we are to change the current situation of the public only seeing contract talks, downloading issues, etc... Maybe this would be the place for the Association, the Paramedics, the Services to start a proper public relations project.  Right now, all the media has on us is business issues (follow the Media link above), but it can be changed with getting together and putting out a positive public image, by flyers to the schools to promote Paramedicine, news releases, etc...

What's new and of may be of interest to local Paramedics and EMS Providers?

The Minister of Health and Long Term Care in the Province of Ontario has been looking at changes to the Regulated Health Professions Act.  "The Ministry is reviewing submissions and seeking advice regarding improvements to the Act." and "The Ministry is making all reports available to health care providers and the public to gain their input on the recommendations. As part of the review process, the Ministry invites written comments by October 15, 2001".  The Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council has information on their site about what they are looking at, and it can be seen here at this link.

In the "Report of the Land Ambulance Transition Task Force to The Minister of Health and Red Tape Commision", one of the recommendations in the document is " The granting, as soon as possible, of professional status to paramedics under the Regulated Health Professions Act".

Interesting reading and our opportunity to step up, write a letter or two, inform our local municipalities (and provincial representatives) of the issue, and see if the recommendations can be acted upon.
