A Note about Advanced Standing and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA):

Kwantlen University College has a twenty-five per cent residency rule for the degree program. This means that twenty-five per cent of the total credits required for the degree must be earned at Kwantlen.
At this point in time, credits granted for Advanced Standing and PLA do not count towards the twenty-five per cent residency.
Before deciding to seek Advanced Standing or PLA for any course, students should add up the total credits which were granted on admission to the Collaborative Nursing Program. The maximum number of allowable credits for Advanced Standing and PLA is 115.5 credits. This rule is significant for students who have taken their nursing diploma education at an institution other than Kwantlen University College. The difference between the total credits granted on admission and the limit of 115.5 maximum allowable for transferred in credits will be the number of credits available for seeking Advanced Standing and PLA.
This should be clarified by the student with the registrar's office, at the beginning of the student's degree education to avoid any confusion. There are a number of opportunities to earn PLA or advanced standing for previous education experiences, however, it is important to consider the residency rule before deciding whether or not to seek these opportunities.
