Our meeting was so much fun, I had a blast. Ya Nubian Sistas are a trip. I thought Monique did a great job hosting and Nicky planned a bomb a** lunch. . Everyone did a great job participating during the book discussion. We may have disagreed about some portions in the book but one thing was clear, we would all join APF if we could keep our anonymity. Oh, on a personal note, I'm so glad Crystal didn't win all the games

Our next meeting is November 23, details to follow.
The theme for our next meeting is "A Hustler Wife" so dress to impress.
Our next outing is Nov 2nd at the International Book Fair in Downtown Miami.

I was thinking between the hours of 1-3pm.
I recently e-mail the review, so I hope everyone will take the time to fill it out.

Club News
Monique's new and improved e-mail address is [email protected]. To make things easier, we are now the Nubian Sistas Book Club. Check out the message board for questions about the book. You can now vote for our site at Soul Search.com. We are currently rated nunber 2 in our category.
Sistas Night Out
E-Poetry was off glass. Shouts out to everyone who came. We had a lot of fun and met some interesting charcters like Jean, the chef. Crystal posted the pics on the website. Check them out!
Growing Strong
Nubian Sistas has grown from 5 to 11 in just one month. I'll be closing membership when we have 15 active members. Therefore, if you want to invite someone to the club, now is the time. If, at anytime, you decide you no longer want to be in the book club, please let me know. We'd rather have a small group of active sistas, then a large group of inactive members. I have categorized members into three groups based on their participations and feedbacks; They are Active, Semi Active and Inactive. Anyone who remains inactive for a month will no longer be considered a member. I believe this is only fair since they are other people who may be interested in joining.
November's BOTM (Book of the Month) Nominations
Instead of choosing and voting for a book at the meeting, which took up a lot of valuable time, I'm trying something new instead.
Please e-mail me with your book selection, which is limited to one per member. In the e-mail include the title and a brief description. The deadline for the BOTM nominations is 10/17/03. I will review the selections and pick the 4 most interesting books.
I will then send everyone a compiled list of the nominations. After you review all the nominations you can vote for your choice on the website.
The book with the most votes will be our next BOTM. I will reveal the selected book at our meeting on October 25.
FYI: Go to Amazon and African American Literature Book Club. They have a great selection of books and reviews. Once you choose a book, copy and paste the review in your email. It's that simple! If you already know the book you would like to nominate but don't have a description then just do a search at the websites previously mentioned.

New Members
Welcome Leanna and Charlene to our club. I can't wait to meet you guys.
Website Update
Our website is now interactive. I've added a message board and a chat room. You can post your comment about the book, another member, or anything else you can think of, on the message board. You can go to the board directly by clicking here. I plan to schedule a time we could all meet in the chat room. I also created a on-line store selling various items, with the Nubien Sistas name, on them. You can purchase t- shirts, mugs, hats even baby apparel. Any money we make, if any, will be use for a future Nubien Sista's event.
Sistas' Night Out
On October 12, the Nubian Sistas will be hitting the club with full divaness. We're going to a erotic poetry reading at Murray Irish Pub. The address is 200 Brickell Ave in Fort Lauderdale. Since the show starts at 7pm, lets meet there at 6. So far, only Nicky J., Nicky D., Crystal and Michaelle aka poohbear21pooh21, has confirmed. Please let me know if you would like to attend. Check the website www.feel.epoetry.com for more information. Although it's free to get in, I suggest you bring money for food and drinks.

Birthday Club
Since we have a few Sistas, who wasn't at the last meeting I want to talk a little bit about the Birthday Club. The Birthday Club was created to celebrate each Sistas' birthday. Each member would contribute ten dollars, which will be
used to buy the person a gift, take her out, whatever. No one is required to be in the birthday club. If you would like to join, however, then e-mail Michaelle at [email protected]. Please include your birthday in the e-mail. I believe Michaelle plans to send out a letter describing the club in more
detail.
Shout out to the Officers
I just want to say "Hey, Hey, Hey" to the Nubian Sistas' officers. You guys have taken your responsibilities on like a second job. Work it my Nubian ladies or, as Nicky D. would say, "Stronge', Stronge'."

Book Update
Many of us are still awaiting the arrival of the book The Sisters of APF. The more people tell me about it, the more I'm dying the read it. From what I heard, you need to stay very close to your man, while reading this book. I'm told it'll makes you come back for more (pun intended).
Nicky J. checked with barnesandnoble.com and the book is slowly trekking it way to the M.I.A. It will most likely be here in the next two days.
Change of Date
Due to scheduling conflict, our club meeting will now be held on Saturday, October 25 at 2:00pm. The location will stay the same.
Club News
Anyone wishing to order our next book club selection on-line, please bring $20 to the next meeting. I know we haven't pick the book yet, but I thought it would be easier to have the money prepared, then scrambling to find a way to get the funds to our Treasurer.
Since we're reading Zane, I thought it would be appropriate to attend an erotic poetry reading. It's free before 7pm (yes, free, our favorite word). It's more then poetry, it's music, food, and they read short stories as well. I doubt we will be bored. The next event is October 12. Check out the website, www.feel-epoetry.com, for more info. Everyone favorite web mistress, event coordinator, book club founder, cousin, sister and friend birthday is only 13 days away. I hope the birthday club is getting together to plan this momentous occasion. I expect lots of presents, balloons, cards and any other materialistic items you can think of.

Book Update
Nicky J. ordered the books and they should be here my Friday(cross your fingers)but, no later than Monday.
Upcoming Events
The cost for the play, Lord all Men Can't Be Dogs, is $24.50 but, only if we attend the play on Thursday, October 2 (see attachment for show times and directions). The show starts at 8pm. The Saturday show is $27.50.

Nicky will need the money by Monday Sept, 29. I know this might be a problem, so I need everyone to email me and let me know if you still want to go. If you don't contact me than I'll be forced to put you on my black
list (by the way, Crystal and Monique, your still on it).
I've been corresponding with Moody Holiday, author of Sweet Redemption and Wild Innocence. She considering traveling to Miami in April for a book signing or maybe a book discussion, we're still working out the details. Okay, the truth is, we been talking about everything else but the trip yet, I'm sure we come back to that topic eventually. She's such a cool person and we're getting along so well, that I asked her to be in our club. When you guys meet her, ya'll love her.
New Sistas
I also want to welcome new members Tammie and Brandy to our group. Sistas, feel free to invite anyone you think will be interested in joining. However, they must have an email address and can make the time to read the book. I think we'll stop accepting new people once we have 12 active members
Next Week
Since we're still waiting on the book, I haven't created any surveys this week. So, consider this your week off. Sistas, if you're planning to buy the book on your own, than please get it by this weekend. Barnes and Nobles already have it on their bookshelves for $21.99. I suggest you call the book store before you go and make sure they still have it in stock.
Sometime next week, I will create a list of characters and post questions on our,soon to be, message board. Reviews for Diary of a Groupie will hopefully be posted sometime next week.

Club News
We finally had our first club meeting and what a meeting it was. The members of Nubian Sistas are a crazy bunch of women who can switch from ghetto to professional in a blink of an eye. However, during all the fun, we did managed to get a lot accomplished including choosing officers, creating rules for our meetings (only one rule - cell phones off) and deciding on members' responsibilities. We ate, laughed, and than we ate some more. I must say, I'm really enjoy myself and I'm looking forward to our next get together
(God, help us all).
Girls Night Out
In October, we're planning to see the play Lord, All Men Can't Be Dogs. Sistas, email me, if you would like to attend
(I want a definite count by September 22).

Book of the Month
The Nubien Sistas showed what freaks we truly are, by picking The Sistas of APF by Zane, as our next book of the month. You can read the book summary by clicking here. Next Month Meeting
Our next meeting will be on Sunday October 19, 2003 at 3:00 pm. Our hostess is our secretary, Monique. She's a little nervous Sistas, so lets give her a hand.

A Busy Weekend
The Nubian Sistas were very busy this weekend. On Saturday, a few of us checked out the Miami International Book Fair. Although it was raining hard, we really enjoyed ourselves. We even found a vendor selling African American Hard Cover Books for $2.00. If you couldn't make it to the fair, I highly suggest you attend next year.
On Sunday night we attended a Ladies Night Out hosted by the Diamond Divas. There, we enjoyed unlimited food and drinks all night long. They also had an assortment of vendors selling items from DVDs to erotic paraphernalia. There was even a fashion show displaying clothes from The Jill Tracey Collection. Later that night, we were treated to a male revue. Check out our comments about the male revue on our message board.
It's That Time Again
It's time to nominate our choice for next month's book. Memebers, please send me your selection by Sunday, November 16. Next month's theme is Family. So, make sure you choose a book that deals with family love, support, drama, misunderstanding, backstabbing, etc... as long as the main subject of the book deals with a family.

Next Meeting
Our next meeting is November 23, at the National Hotel in South Beach. The brunch, hosted by the women networking group, I.A.M., will begin at 11am and the meeting will start at 1pm. Memebers, as you're reading, A Hustler's Wife, write down any questions you would like to discuss and bring them with you to the meeting. If you haven't purchased the book yet, contact Crystal to arrange a book swap. By the way, our sister club, The Nubian Divas is having their first meeting Sunday, November 16.
