Water Street Motors 2002 National Hot Rod Show
The Water Street Motors 2002 National Hot Rod Show was one of the three major national events on the New Zealand Hot Rod Association (NZHRA) calendar for the 2002 year. The Show was organised by Northern Streetrods in Whangarei, New Zealand. A local company, Water Street Motors, gained the naming rights in a draw made from the 100 businesses who supported the Club in making the Show a outstanding success. National Auto Club Motor Insurance provided additional sponsorship for the Awards Night Dinner and Prizegiving.
Each year the annual show is the pinnacle of achievement, where hot rod owners display their talent and creations to both the general public and the NZHRA judges. Participants present their vehicles in dazzling and spectacular fashion to create a visual spectacle for the pleasure of show visitors. The participants aim to provide the NZHRA judges with an opportunity to compare the degree of detail as well as to compete for incentive prizes related to the display itself. Entrants are drawn from the 89 affiliated clubs of the N Z Hot Rod Association throughout New Zealand to compete for the grand title of 'top' in their category, in New Zealand.
The Show held over Queen's Birthday weekend in June 2002 was the first major event to be held in the new completed ASB Advocate stadium.

The Northern Street Rods Show Committee Team, with the support of the other Club members, worked hard for two years organising an event that was exciting for visitors and participants alike. A full programme of events and activities was provided for participants in the Show. The after Show reports in the media were full of praise and it is likely that this Show will be talked about for years to come.
