Small Sculpture Competition Winners 2001


The First Place Award of $4000 goes to Colleen Kelsey for "Sister Two" made of wire, glue, and thread, 13"x18" which hangs in the photo below between the winners and judges.

The judges were Kerry Brougher, Chief Curator of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC;Ferdinand Protzman, who writes regularly on art in Washington, DC whose articlesmay be seen in The WashingtonPost ; and Pamela Soldwedel, Sculptor whose works may be foundat http://www.SoldwedelSculptures.com

The winner, Colleen Kelsey represented the Washington Chapter in the National competition at the conference in Pittsburgh where her work, along with work of competitors from 20 other chapters, was on exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art from May 18 through the summer of 2001. All competitors' sculptures were of excellent quality of execution of workmanship. They represented variety of style from portrait busts and humorous creations to more abstract concepts.The winners were chosen primarily for their unique and creative useof materials.
