Trails & Riding Spots
ok I want this section to have all the decent riding spots and trails around. If anyone wants to add to it, just contact me with a description and ill post it.
Quote the Raven - I'm not
giving out its location. Its the first stunted trail I have ever built.
Its not very flowy or well built, but has some cool stunts.
Most the stunts are built.
And most of the others need to be built up a bit more, some repairs and such
because its falling apart. Its an old trail. Its safe enough to ride though
for the most part.
Franklin - This used to be an old mine.
Its been long since abandoned, and its a bunch of black hills now, we have some
things built up, little dirt jumps here and there and little drops, a bigger
booter too. Some times it gets tore up from lots of ATV and MX use.
Its location is right next to the army
& navy in Florence/Bras D'or.

Backshore - This is one of my favorite trails, its not very technical or challenging, but riding along the cliffs in Florence and Little Pond is just fun, as its situated directly on the coast, it can get rather cold, and if your doing the whole trail you'll have to cross the Florence gut, so yeah, unless you enjoy polar bear swims, might wanna wait till the weather is nice for this one, or if the gut is really low, but that doesn't happen too often. you can do this one either way, from Florence to Little Pond or vice versa, in Florence just drive down shore road and then turn off the old road to the back beach, once your there the trail just follows the cliff on both sides, go left, right is fun, but it might take you a whole 5 mins. I personally much rather do it from Little Pond to Florence, more downhill's and just seems to flow better, drive down little pond road until u get to the pond on the right, turn in and go down the dirt road for brogans strip mine, just keep going down till you make your way to the beach, then your there, just follow the cliff.
Florence Highball - Also an old mine, its very similar to the Franklin (see above), but doesn't get tore up quite as much because theirs less MXers using it, go down shore road Florence, past the church and the tracks and right after the turn on the right hand side, you cant miss it.
Dough Boy - This trail is a short downhill, lots of turns and the end
is rooty and a lil technical, it ends at the Franklin so you can sesh the
Franklin after you ride it, which is always fun, when the trail is wet its still
very rideable, unlike many other trail around, although there is a few large
puddles, their easily avoidable, most of the water on the trail doesn't stay as
its on a hill, so that's good. Once you get used to the trail, you can ride it
brakeless and complete in under a minute if you got the skills, very fun. Now
the hard part, trying to explain how to get to this.....the trail head is just
kinda in the woods, in the middle of a larger network of ATV trails (this is one
too actually), so the best way to do it is just contact a local and we can show
you the trail, but if you persist to find it on your own, the best way is
probably to go through Bras'dor to the Kinsmen Park, then from there go up
blueberry hill, and follow the trail until you come to a fork, go right, keep
going straight then you will encounter another fork, this time go left, and
almost immediately after that fork you will encounter yet another one, go right,
keep an eye out or you might miss the last one, now your on the trail, so just
rip it up (also there is one fork on the trail too, just go right, the flow of
the trail will point you that way anyways).

The Old Railroad - This is the most beginner of beginner trails, but
its what got me into the sport in the first place, and ill still ride it every
now and again (actually I use it to get to the Backshore or Deadmans path, there
all kinda in a large network). It used to be a railway, but that's been
long gone, just a path now, used by everything from ATV's, MTB's, MX, even the
odd truck, but still theirs no jumps or hills, so it doesn't get tore up, its
fairly smooth, you can get to it from Florence or Little Pond, from Little Pond
its on the right, just past Toronto Road. In Florence down Shore Road,
right before the turn to the back beach, its there, right next to it. Its
an easy trail, but a good way to try the sport.
Ferris's Hill - Ok this one is easy to get to, its right behind Brad's
Radio Shack in North Sydney, its jus a big hill, cant miss, its fun to ride
down, and theirs also a network of trails at the top of it, which are fun, this
whole area is really muddy when wet, so if your made of sugar, wait till its
nice and dry.
The Pit - Ok this is right next to the ferry terminal in North Sydney (the loading dock thing for the Osprey building). There's a bank on each side, with barricades running along the top, and the pit drop, its about 5 feet to flat. This is a fun spot to sesh, but its best when its thrown into an urban assault.
Sydney Mines Elementary - This is just up down the road from robins on the right. There is lots of curbs a few benches, and some stairs and bank type things to climb on or fool around. This is a fun little spot to check out every once and a while, although for some odd reason the cops really don't like people here, and will often kick you out.
North Sydney Waterfront - This is down on the waterfront in North Sydney, its all nice smooth wood for riding on, with some benches and ledges, also at one end there is a lot of fairly large rocks, any trials riders out there can have lots of fun on them, and up near the water, there is a small ledge thing, very fun to ride on, although don't fall in the water below, anyone who drowns trying that line cant hold me responsible, hehe. Also in the summer, the city workers will kick you out of here every now and again...especially if your in a large group, but if its just a few people you should be fine.
Barracks - If you go down Shore Road in Sydney Mines all the way (don't go left back into Sydney Mines), you should be able to see the barracks. These are old World War II era ruins, and also happens to be a fun little spot to session. There is a lot of ledges and gaps, and some decent drops too ranging from under a foot to about 5 feet, can be fun for a while, but I wouldn't recommend going here every time you ride.
Super Value - "Lets go jump off of Super Value!" - Chad
Cantwell
While you may not quite be doing that, there is plenty of stuff around here to hit, some of it fairly big
too. There is a gap from the Super Value parking lot into another parking
lot, its about 7 feet at the highest point, it was pioneered by skaters, but
doable on a bike (anything is doable on a bike until proven otherwise). Also there is a double set, adjacent to that gap, its a
4 and a 3. And in back of Super Value there is a little drop you can do
and there is almost always venerable pallets lying around in back, so have
fun! Also in back of super value you will see a trail up this hill, go up
there and then walk up the trail through the woods (or ride up if your a great
climber...like really really great), and once you get to the top (which is
actually the top of Farris Hill), take a break, turn around, then bomb down the
same line you just walked up, its really fun, and near the end theirs a choice
of either a switchback or a 3 stair, both lines are fun.
Marine Atlantic Ferry Terminal - This is the ferry terminal in North
Sydney, and a very fun place to ride, there is a lot of stuff to do here.
Up under the overpass there is a large bank that you can ride, and from that you
can do a 6 foot drop into the entrance of the ferry terminal. Also there
is another bank in the entrance, however that's harder to ride up cause there is
a ledge at the bottom, but it serves as a small drop also. And if you go
down in the entrance and stay on the right, you will see a yellow barricade
(this is mark's yellow barricade, he owns it), just go look at it, if you've been riding for any length of
time whatsoever you'll know what to do, but for the less informed of us, its a
skinny, ride it! then after that get passed the toll booth thing, then
keep going down next to the building, there is a stair set and some little
drops banks and ledges all around it. If you keep going down you'll get to
the crosswalk (that crosses the entire area), you go down this but don't stay on
it, turn left and go behind the trucks that are parked there at the end, and get
into the other area of the terminal, there is some flatbed trailers usually
parked here as well as a few other objects you can use while riding (and
honestly, is there anything you cant use?), however, as great a place to ride as
the ferry terminal is, there is always tradeoffs. In this case, have fun
staying here for more then 30 minutes without getting kicked out, cause it just
wont happen. The security guards go ape shit if they see you, and threaten
to take your bike. They have even been known to call the cops, they are
almost always real hard asses, so make your time here worth it before you get
kicked. Despite all this, every now and again they wont care what you do,
its really weird.
Carmen Young Memorial Skate Park
- This is small skate park in North
Sydney, its right next to the Carmen Young walking track. They have
a quarter pipe, a bank ramp, a small pyramid, and some rails and pads, its
alright to session.
HC Trails - I was just informed that a few trails have been built up, and
lots of fun stunts, I had the pleasure of riding these trails and must say
the guys did a very good job. Contact Stewart or Jonny and they can hook
you up with a ride if they want.

Rock Star - This is one of the new trails we are
building. It starts off with a choice of three lines, one is a little
steep singletrack containing a jump, the other two are drops, one is about 5-6
feet, the other is 7-14 depending on your speed. There is a logride (see
picture), and then a large structure which splits into two different gaps,
one big and one small. A few more stunts need to be built and the trail
needs to be refined more. With some more build time I hope this will
become a real good quality trail, even if it is rather short. Contact me
and just maybe ill let you ride it.

Highway Trail - I was very impressed while riding
this trail, had some drops (nothing super huge, but were fun all the same), some
skinnies and a really cool stunt over a brook. That last one was super
cool, and pretty original. This trail for the most part had a nice flow to
it, which is pretty hard to find in Cape Breton "shore" trails. Definitely
a good ride Contact one of us and we can go riding.
Cliffs - Simply known as the Cliffs, its like a
mini rock quarry in Bras D'or. There is lots of crazy steep lines here,
its very rocky, and has limitless potential. We are building some neat
lines here, I hope to build a decent sized drop here in the near future as well.
Contact me and we can ride.

Scotch Lake Rock Quarry - Well I went here
expecting lots of crazy lines and some large airs, and I got something I didn't
expect... some flowy double track and a few cool lines on the smaller hills.
The main quarry itself turned out to be too steep at places and far too soft in
others to ride. While there is potential for some cool lines, you would
have to bring a shovel and really work to get them there. On the left side
there is a ATV trail that goes fairly far, you can ride up then ride back down
for some flowy fun, also the area would be incredible to build a mtb trail, so
if anyone is looking for a spot, I suggest checking this out. To get here
turn left (from Sydney) at the Brasdor traffic lights. Keep going for a
while until your in Scotch Lake, the quarry is on the left.
