Central Women's Team Captain, Reporting on Australian Interstates 2002

Hi all,

Well you would all have seen our results on the NZCPA site I presume. We were stoked with 4th (up from 7th in 2001). Unfortunately we lost Kerryn before the competition even started and we travelled with just our normal Wellington team- Ali, Ness, Lib, Rach, Josie and myself.

Our first day of competition was a tough one with South Australia, Victoria 1 and ACT. We lost our game against SA 9-1 but this was an improvement on the 10-0 loss in 2001!!! and we were stoked to score. We lost against Victoria 1 5-3 and drew against ACT 2-2. Not a bad day one but it meant that we had to win the rest of our round robin games to make the top four cut-off.

Day 2- Victoria 2, NSW 2 and NSW 1. We won against vic 2 10-3, won against NSW 2 (can't remember the score sorry) and then won against NSW1-2nd placegetters in 2001!!! This was a great feeling and meant that we qualified in third place. We just needed to wait round for the draw to come up. But the Australians had a problem with their computerised draw and it put us in 5th.... boy was i devastated!!!! But we sorted that out and were out in our rightful places as third.

Day three- up against NSW 1 (the winner had a chance to make the finals). The game was goal for goal and with about a minute to go they scored to go one up.....3-2. We took the centre line restart and with 23s on the clock managed to get the ball down under their goal and had the chance to even the scores..... didn't get the goal but I was stoked that we had the strength to keep going with such a short amount of time on the clock and do everything in our power to try and make it through.

Anyway the final placings in the womens grade were:

1 SA
2 NSW1
3 Vic1
4 Central Region
5 ACT
6 NSW2
7 Vic2

Happy training everyone!
