Toreador of Toronto

Toreador of Note

Such a mighty clan for so long...

So many in power. So many who made impressions on the city in other ways.

We remember them. Always.

(I am currently working on the profiles, as I have to find out a bit more about some of these people...)

Lord Pale Elias De'ath
The Toreador Justicar. Former Primogen of Toronto. To some, a respected member of the clan. To others, the man who abandoned his city in it's time of need.

Kristoph Rook
Primogen, Elder, Prince, Traitor? The rumors about Kristoph are as legendary as his sculptures. Arriving in Toronto in early 1994, Kristoph took over as leader of the clan with the departure of Pale De'ath at the end of the year. A founding member of the Plantagenet coterie, Kristoph worked behind the scenes with his childer and mortal brother, Sagat Rook, in controlling the politics of the city. He claimed the Throne in mid-1995 amid rumors of an illicit treaty made with his brother, who had betrayed the Camarilla and become a leader among the Sabbat forces invading the domain. After a few tumultuous months, Kristoph left in disgust, swearing never to return. And yet he had but for what reasons?

Tabitha Wheelwright

Possibly the most beloved Toreador to ever grace the halls of Toronto's Elysiums, Tabitha did more to shape the city than many of its Princes. Embraced in London, England by an unknown stranger in 1901, she spent her early unlife withdrawn from kindred society, her only public associate being her clanmate Edmund Ironside. When she did emerge from her seclusion in the early 1990s, it was only to be disappointed by the harsh nature of kindred politics. In 1994, she was reunited with Ironside in Toronto. Together with Kristoph Rook and under the leadership of then-Primogen Pale De'ath, they struggled to strengthen the clan despite the inevitable conflicts.

Tabitha's life in Toronto was filled with strife and dashed hopes. Her long-lost sire, Sagat Rook, was turned to the Sabbat only months after their reunion. She served as Primogen and later Seneschal for a series of Princes, always offering a gentle guiding hand behind the throne. Throughout, she wrestled with the strong passions for which the Toreador are famous, and rumors of her affairs with powerful figures like Justicar De'ath, Tremere Regent Echo, and Ventrue Prince Alex South kept the harpies busy. In late March, 1996, Tabitha was slain by hunters, a loss that is still being felt by the clan and the city.

Ironside

While he earned a name for himself as an actor and artist in London during the early 1900s, little is known of Edmund Ironside Mortimer's life before then. Arriving in Toronto in early 1994, he was a founding member of the infamous Plantagenet coterie, along with Tabitha Wheelwright, Kristoph Rook and Sagat Rook. Serving as Harpy and clan Whip during his stay in the city, Ironside departed in early 1996 to accept a position as Archon to the Toreador Justicar, Pale De'ath. During a Conclave held in Toronto in May 1996, Ironside admitted to diablerizing a member of a then-unknown bloodline and was killed by his Justicar.

Wilde

Known drunkard, poseur and arrogant fop, Wilde always managed to juggle off the many scandals caused by his presence on the Primogen Council with charm and wit. After a serious status loss following Archon Ironside's investigation into the death of a series of Ventrue within Toronto, Wilde declared himself to be anarch, and was last heard of working with a small bloodline called the Razor Children within New York, a Sabbat-held domain.

Eugenie LaFontaine

Another of the London Toreador contingent, Eugenie LaFontaine was one of the earliest members of the clan to arrive in Toronto. She quickly earned both the respect and affection of then-Primogen Pale De'ath, becoming the Clan Whip. This position would prove to be her undoing: on the fateful night when the golden cup that symbolized the Toreador clan unleashed it's deadly bound magic, Pale was not present and Eugenie, as Whip, was the target of its power. Her death was the first true tragedy to strike to Toreador of the city, and it is rumored that even the mighty Pale is still wounded by her loss.

Ophelia Vale

Childe of the Archon Ironside, Ophelia walked a fine line between being adored and despised. With her frank manner and sharp political insight, she quickly rose through the ranks of the clan, becoming Primogen within months of her arrival and then Seneschal upon the death of Tabitha Wheelwright. Ophelia was able to weather the many harsh rumors that surrounded her, including tales of an affair with the Nosferatu Prince Robert and her relationship with Shamus, the Prince who succeeded Robert. After the city fell to the Sabbat in August 1996, Ophelia escaped from the domain under a flurry of scandal. She is rumored to be somewhere in Europe at present.

Michael

Michael arrived from New Orleans in the company of Archon Ironside, and quickly formed friendships among both the outskirts and the leaders of the Clan. Reputed to have a history of killing Setites from his last residence, he now bore all the hallmarks of a burn-out, his once-beautiful voice turned only to opposing the changing political structure. One the evening of the Sabbat invasion, he was dismayed at the arrival of a young woman, apparently his mortal sister who had recently been embraced. This girl, Mercy, was soon revealed to be a Follower of Set, apparently chosen in revenge for Michael's actions against that clan. Michael led an underground resistance against the Sabbat, using the phrase "Art Is" as a code for revolutionary activities. Morty Skagnelli, the former Harpy, was embraced by Michael to aid in this fight. In late September 1996, Michael committed suicide. Though the exact reasons are unknown, it is suspected that the recent death of his close friend Sasha, and the departure of Ophelia Vale, had much to do with his depression.

Sasha

Breaking the stereotype of Clan Toreador as social butterflies, Sasha was unique among the Toronto Clan, an artiste who cared only for her work. Her shyness and stutter shut her out from the bickering politics that wracked the clan, though none who witnessed the beauty of her stained glass creations could question her place within their ranks.
Sadly, violence was all too common at that time, and her works displayed at the Elysium were shattered within a month. Reportedly, she committed suicide following this crime, stating that she "could not continue in a world where art was not loved".

Ashley

Childe of Ophelia Vale, the former Primogen and Seneschal of Toronto under Princes Robert and Shamus. He had only been embraced a few short weeks when his sire abandoned both him and the city, amidst rumors of collusion with the Sabbat and strange dealings with unknown forces. When the Sabbat were to kill Kate, of Clan Gangrel and Prince Shamus's consort, Ashley took her place. His bravery and eloquence moved the Sabbat to convert him, but in a spate of fickleness they cast him out of the sect weeks later. He was in the midst of the chaos surrounding the death of Santino, the Sabbat warden, but no one can be sure which side he fought with. Less than four months after his embrace, Ashley was killed by an unknown Camarilla member for his "collusion" with the Sabbat.
