He grew up to be a captain in the palace guard. Once, he was asked by the Khan to give a martial arts demonstration to a stranger from the West. The Westerner was truly impressed and visited Balthasar that night. The man was actually Alexander Therion. When Alexander tried to Embrace Balthasar, the young mortal used his skills to fend off the attacks, but just barely. He managed to escape Alexander's grip and flee into the night. His knowledge of the grounds and his natural stealth helped him to elude the Kindred for some time, but in the end his knowledge was no match for the other's nightvision and superhuman speed and strength. Balthasar was embraced only after a long struggle.

When he recovered from the Embrace, Balthasar struggled against his new existance. He traveled Asia, first seeking a cure and then seeking honorable death in combat. The next few centuries were a quest to learn new fighting skills and testing himself against the deadliest foes, mortal, Kindred, and demon. His training included both Shaolin Kung Fu, and Kenjutsu learned from Miyamoto Musashi. He was continuously drawn back to Alexander, and over the years accepted his fate. He is now one of Alexander's most loyal supporter. He is often called upon to perform assassinations, where stealth is called for.

Balthasar is very much a loner, and is one of the most independent of the Therion Clan. As much a warrior as any Therion, his methods include stealth, patience, and speed over brute strength. Depending on who he is with, his demeanor can be cold, arrogant and aloof, which is with most people, or warm and humorous to the few people he cares about.
