Series One
The Mermaids Singing
This was originally split into two parts. Its premier broadcast
was in Denmark on 20 August, 2002.
The city is gripped in panic. An unknown person is abducting healthy
men and subjecting them to gruesome tortures of an apparently sexual
nature. When Carol is put on the case the first thing she does is call
Tony, hoping his profiling expertise could track down the so far invisible
killer. Tony is surprised at her plea for help but agrees to the challenge.
Carol’s colleagues frown upon Tony’s unconventional methods,
but they cooperate. Three seemingly linked killings have taken place,
but the investigation charges into fever pitch when a policeman from
the department is the next victim.
The only link between victims that the Bradfield department has come
up with is that they are all gay, but Tony rubbishes this and concentrates
more on the individuals. He believes that the killer is sending them
a message with the dead bodies. The most recent victim’s back
is covered in scars made with cake decorators, before the man was killed…
The killer then changes his taste and begins to stalk the most crucial
victim yet- Tony himself. Tony is strung up in an ancient torture device
but manages to stall the killer, a trans-sexual called Angelica Bane,
by telling ‘her’ he wants to be part of it. It is a race
against the clock as Carol is left with the evidence and Tony’s
absence. At just the last minute, Carol bursts in to save the shaken
and naked Tony.
A few weeks later, when Angelica is safely behind bars, Tony begins
his regular visits. He is now her psychologist, and almost seems to
revel in the opportunity to analyse a psychopath.
Shadows Rising
This was originally split into two parts. Its premier broadcast
was in Denmark on 3 September, 2002.
Due to Tony’s previous successes, Assistant Chief Commissioner
Brandon asks for his help without bothering to go through Carol. A young
girl's body has been found floating in a lake, and the police have not
a clue where to begin looking for the killer. Neither, it seems, has
Tony. Much to Carol's annoyancethey are separated in cases, but they
do discuss their respective problems with each other. Carol is working
on, puzzling out threatening letters that have been sent to celebrity
Amanda Vance.
As Tony comes to the conclusion that the murdured girls have all voluntarily
run away from home to meet someone, the letters toVance become more
threatening. Someone breaks into the Vance household and slits their
dog’s throat, then leaves it in a bathtub.
Not soon after, Amanda Vance’s personal assistant and secret lover,
Beth, is found naked and dead. Tony is beginning to realize something
horrendous, but probable. He is sure that no-one will believe him, but
at the last moment finally manages to convince Carol and one life is
saved.
Jack Vance has been seducing teenage girls and luring them to a converted
monastery. There he smashes in their cheekbone with a rock and shackles
them into a small cupboard, raping them and not feeding them until they
die. Fortunately, Carol and co manage to rescue the most recent victim
before the end and Jacko Vance is arrested.
Justice Painted Blind
This was originally split into two parts. It's premier broadcast
was in Denmark on 12 December, 2002.
A young woman is strangled, another 11 year old girl is abducted. Tony
is called onto the case and immediately sees parallels with the murder
of Trudy Hibbert, which happened three years earlier. The chief suspect
is previously convicted pedophile, Paul Gregory, but Tony is convinced
that the killer’s behaviour doesn’t match with Gregory's.
Tony is further disturbed by the fact that the victims don’t match
any other known pattern of murder, and as the deaths pile up the differences
multiply.
They uncover two separate cases of pedophilia, and finally see the truth.
The people who were murdered were all on the jury that freed Paul Gregory.
Tony works it out at last- Trudy Hibbert’s mother, Nicola, is
mad with grief with what has happened to her daughter. She is incensed
that after Gregory has been set free he offends again. Trudy’s
mother went on a veritable rampage and killed all of the jurors who
signed his release. Tony and Carol get to Paul Gregory’s house
too late and find him dead, with Trudy’s Nicola standing over
the body. After the police have carted her away, Tony spots evidence
that shows that Paul had indeed killed Trudy Hibbert. Tony is distraught
he believed Paul innocent.
Series Two
Still She Cries
The premier broadcast of this was in Israel, 17 December 2003.
Tony is asked to help with a case of serial abductions, but is almost
thrown off the case when a student from his university, Hattie, is abducted.
Carol doesn’t like the fact that he has brought one of his brightest
students, Laura Webster, into the case.
Tony convinces the police to continue searching for the bodies one of
his long time patients, Maggie Thomas. They just give up when the abductions
go to the next stage- Carol is sent a threatening note. As Tony battles
with the fact that a drunken Laura has accused him of rape, Maggie Thomas
begins to feel thoroughly neglected. Tony is proven innocent, and he
helps to catch the murderer.
Unfortunately, Maggie has remembered where the bodies have been buried
and has decided enough is enough. She uses a paperclip accidentally
left by Tony during his last visit to first write a map on the wall
with her blood, then punctures her jugular.
The Darkness of Light
The premier broadcast of this was in Israel, 21 December 2003.
Two dead bodies have been discovered during a simple pipe maintenance
excavation in the grounds of a country town hotel. Carol is called in
to see if the deaths are suspicious, and deciding that they are she
calls Tony. There has been a terrible fire in the hotel, it was nearly
burnt to the ground. Tony researches the positioning of the two uncovered
bodies and discovers that they have been buried in the ritual fashion
that infidels were in the middle ages.
He discovers ancient images carved in the forest and makes out a makeshift
church. This leads him to the conclusion that the seemingly unlinked
victims all committed some form of sacrilege in the mind of the killer.
When they begin to target children with fire, Tony’s deductions
lead Carol and the police to just save the life of the latest intended
victim.
The murderer, Joanna Draper, has been killing in the delusion she is
slaying the infidels. She lives in a completely hallucinogenic world,
believing a priest is by her side instructing her to do things, and
that a simple steak knife is a mighty sword. When the police burst in
to the room to save the child, she drops the fire torch she is holding
and is incinerated.
Right to Silence
A series of brutal murders have been carried out bearing all the hallmarks
of a previously convicted criminal. The only trouble is he’s safely
behind bars. Carol is convinced that he’s orchestrating the murders
through outside contacts, but Tony can see that something doesn’t
fit.
Carol arrests several people simply as a smokescreen to make the killer
relax, but one innocent captive kills himself due to being horribly
claustrophobic. Tony finally whittles down all the facts and identifies
the real killer as the most unlikely person imaginable.
The criminal’s lawyer, so resentful about the damage the criminal
has done to his career, has orchestrated the murders to further punish
him. He thought he was invulnerable to the law, but when it came down
to the crunch he was resigned to the fact it was over.
Sharp Compassion
The premier broadcast of this was in Israel, 28 December 2003.
Patients at Bradfield hospital seem to be dropping dead for no reason.
Carol is called in to investigate, and it is soon uncovered that someone
is injecting air into people through their skin, which is causing severe
hemorrhaging and death. Carol is determined to solve this quickly as
an M15 official is breathing down her neck, but she can’t call
on the public for help because that would spread panic. The only logical
thing to do is turn to Tony Hill.
Though there is nothing much to go on, Tony comes to the conclusion
that someone believes they are setting the ailing patients free from
their mortal pain. He asks Carol to look for someone with a failed past
in medical areas, who is very passionate about euthanasia. Luckily they
find the culprit, a lowly male nurse, before he kills again.
