Main Characters
Dr Tony Hill played by Robson Green
Doctor Antony Hill is a bumbling genius. His belongings and thoughts
are equally jumbled and untidy, but this is one of the main aspects
of his genius. He works as clinical psychologist and teaches psychology
students on the side. He agreed to help Carol and the police simply
for the challenge. His brain never rests for long, he always needs something
to puzzle on.
Socially inept with ‘normal people’, he gains rare
insight into the minds of the criminally insane and is unrivalled in
the profession of profiling. A mixture of completely immersing himself
in the criminal’s mind and textbook knowledge rarely steers him wrong.
He deals with stresses by trying to look at situations with a detached
atmosphere and discharges pent up aggression by playing violent computer
games. He sometimes borders on psychotic himself, but is held back by
a strong sense of morality.
DI Carol Jordan played by Hermione Norris
Carol Jordan is a police officer with ambition. In high stress situations
she is usually cool headed and does not let the horrors of her job get
to her, though every now and then she struggles with morality and a
feeling of guilt from her cases that went wrong. Capable and open to
new ideas, she is the one who first seeks Tony’s help. She lives only
with a cat, most probably because her job is her life. She often tries
with relationships but they fail due to her avaricious personality.
Romance is hinted between her and Tony, but neither have acted on their
mutual attraction.
ACC John Brandon played by Tom Chadbon
‘Chief’ Brandon is a shrewd copper who made it to the top
through hard work. He doesn’t always trust Tony’s judgments,
but trusts Carol implicitly. He is an expert in dealing with the media
and higher officials, and bends the rules to help Carol in her investigations.
DS Don Merrick played by Alan Stocks
Don is almost a stereotypical copper- pigheaded, reliable and very passionate
about justice. Though not the brightest crayon in the box, he is a very
determined man and sometimes prompts breakthroughs. His one failing
is he is easily prejudiced against one suspect, and finds it hard to
consider other’s views when he believes he is right. If a criminal is
caught and being violent, Don has absolutely no qualms about hitting
the rotter back.
DS Kevin Geoffries played by Mark Letheren
A very good policemen in many respects, Kevin is only holding onto his
place on the team by a thread. This was due to being caught giving information
to and sleeping with Penny Burges, a lady rather promiscuous from the
press.
Criminals and Murdurers

Angelica
Bain
played by Tom Fisher
Angelica is a trans-sexual
(man to woman) who is in search of the ultimate sexual partner. She
built ancient torture devices such as the rack from designs she found
on websites, then abducted various strong men from a gym near her
house. She wanted them to blend pain and sexual pleasure, and was
very disappointed in them because they all died screaming. Then she
found Tony. He convinced her that he wanted to be part of what she
was doing, and knocked her out with handcuffs. She is now living in
a mental institution and is visited regularly by Tony, who is now
her psychologist.
Maggie Thomas played by Elaine Claxton
Maggie was caught after
murdering several teenage girls and was Tony’s patient for a couple
of years. He hoped to cajole her into remembering where she had buried
the dead bodies, but during his visits established a unique relationship.
Maggie fell in love with Tony and was insanely jealous of any other
woman who came near him, and was desperately depressed that she couldn’t
please him by remembering where she had buried the girls. Tony accidentally
dropped a paperclip and left it in her room, and as he was too busy
to come to see her again she felt rejected. Having finally remembered
where the girls were, she used the paperclip to cut herself and wrote
a map on the wall then punctured her jugular with it. Her years of
being plagued by ‘the ghosts of those she had killed’ were finally
over.
Jack (Jacko) Vance played by John Michie
Jacko Vance is a very
interesting character in the fact that he is a very successful man
in monetary wealth. The only problem is he is obsessed with the fact
that his first wife ran away from him when he was incapacitated in
hospital. He did beat her, but in his mind she had abandoned him.
An ex-footballer, he became a TV personality married to a famous wife
(who was actually having an affair with her female personal assistant).
He seduced late teenage girls, leading them to his converted monastery.
There he raped them, smashed their cheekbones to mirror the injury
that put him in hospital and shackled them in a cupboard until they
starved.
Paul Gregory played by Daniel Ryan
Paul Gregory was the first criminal that Tony was wrong about. A pedophile
who had been acquitted by a jury due to lack of evidence, he had gone
about his everyday life and secretly raped. He was killed by Trudy Hibbert’s
mother (Nicola) who was very annoyed at what he had done to her little
girl.
Nicola Hibbert played by Christine Mackie
Nicola Hibbert’s motive for murder was very straightforward- she
believed she was dispensing true justice. A pedophile, Paul Gregory,
who molested and killed her daughter, Trudy Hibbert, was released by
a jury due to lack of evidence. Nicola went on a rampage, stuffing newspaper
clippings about the trial down the throats of the jurors before strangling
them. She left Paul Gregory to last, seeing him as the ultimate goal.
She felt no remorse for what she had done, she saw it simply as upholding
the law.
Unnamed Serial Kidnapper
All this killer was interested in was control. He dressed up as various
unassuming people such as a telephone repair man or a university student,
and nabbed unsuspecting girls. He thought he was far too clever to be
caught by the police and taunted them with notes stuck on trees and
mutilated dolls.
Joanna Draper played by Caroline O'Neill
Joanna Draper was a student
of religion, but got a little carried away. She had been killing in
the delusion she is slaying the infidels. She lived in a completely
hallucinogenic world, believing a priest is by her side instructing
her to do things, and that a simple steak knife is a mighty sword.
When the police burst in to the room to save her latest victim, she
dropped the fire torch she was holding and was incinerated.
