the collegiate times: our featured columns

Tom and I have been writing to the Collegiate Times since our junior year (Fall 2000) at Virgina Tech. We both started out as writing letters to the editor, however wanted to take the lead in the expression of ideals. Tom was ready - he was very grounded with his opinions, while I on the other hand, was still maturing, and a bit self-conscious. I found refuge in drawing cartoons, while he went ahead and composed lengthy, deep, and meaningful columns. Finally, the fall of my senior year, I would grow the confidence to write my own columns (after many cartoons). Now I still draw cartoons, however I am also an active columnist. It's been very rewarding so far, and satisfying to throw mud at my opponents! (Classy, disease-free mud, of course.) Below are our columns, mine, then Tom's. (Tom had the honor of receiving national recognition for one of his works, as well as another that is circling through the world-wide web on several listservs, including Amnesty International, due to its deep and provoking message.)
