There has been a growing wave of pacifism, political-correctness, moral relativism, and lack of backbone, which began in the 90’s. These principles have been praised in business, media, pop-culture, law, and politics in hopes that by becoming as un-opinionated as possible, you may attract the greatest number of people, by blurring the lines that divide ideas.
The side effect of this plague is that communication channels are compromised because everyone is thinking in relativistic terms instead of planting their feet on the ground and welcoming friendly confrontation. There are certain situations that cannot be dealt with passively.
Democratic legislators across the country are responsible for reducing sentences for violent criminals due to good behavior in a number of states recently. The idea was to focus more on rehabilitation and save money by reducing the population of inmates. Last year the effect of that legislation became clear.
In California for example, a murderer was released (because of the new legislation) and went on to kill and rape six more people before he was apprehended. This is not the only case of tragedy caused by this terrible legislation.
As a citizen of this great nation, I am even less inclined to vote for these people and associated members of their party than I was before.
As a humanitarian, I am disgusted with the lack of common sense that has brought gruesome, barbaric, evil, and unnatural death to my neighbors and their families.
Does a right mind anticipate any other outcome? When you put trust in a disturbed individual and politely impart reason to a mind of unreason, do you hope to gain ground? What are the stakes?
Inside of prison walls, this approach may prove experimentally beneficial. However when you experiment with society, innocent lives are at stake. Likewise, the lives of our citizens are in danger when we decide to pacify the demon that is terrorism.
The Clinton administration decided to take a typical pacifist approach to dealing with Bin Laden. They made adjustments and reorganizations that they thought would improve intelligence. They also imposed constrictive measures that greatly limited intelligence capability.
If you log onto CNN.com, you’ll find that the intelligence community is not very fond of the Clinton administration because they whittled away their ability to function effectively. Clinton was willing to compromise national security in return for improved international relations. We cannot follow his footsteps.
For some reason, people associate change with progression. When virtues have been realized, and the winds of change carry us away, change becomes regression. A virtue as old as time itself is known by all wise men: a pact with the devil is a request for betrayal.
Homicidal maniacs and the Taliban are not exceptions.
While humanitarian strategies are key factors, they are clearly not a complete solution.
Time and time again we have provided aid to these people, but their government has abused it by bending it to their perceived needs instead of the needs of their people. Their infrastructure continues to lay stagnant because they have invested our money in military totalitarianism and inhumane social control.
Only two governments in the world even recognize their sovereignty because they have isolated Afghanistan and condemned international human rights; and they offer no sign of compromise or cooperation. Their opposition and previous sovereign of Afghanistan, the Northern Alliance, still holds Afghanistan’s seat in the UN.
In the meantime, we offer money to build their military and provide extra financial channels through which terrorism will grow.
Shall we continue to provide aid to Afghanistan through the Taliban and hope that someday they will stop perverting it?
When this war is manifest, we shall see strikes against the machines of terrorism: heroine-producing plants, chemical plants, communications, training camps, and defense systems.
The international rules of war forbid the slaughter of the innocents that has become a fairy-tale in the minds of pacifists.
All assets to Afghanistan that could find their way to Bin Laden must be frozen. A series of surgical military strikes must be executed to scatter terrorist organizations, cut their line of supply, and destroy their standing resources.
Bush’s administration is composed of the best people in the country for this job, and Democrats and Republicans are unified.
This is a multi-dimensional problem with more than just one root. We must strike at each root in order to suppress terrorism. While humanitarian efforts are a key component, solely implemented, we are entering a pact with the devil.
We should avoid pacifism and not be naive. This is a trial for our people.
For once in a very long time, we are required to have backbone and stand our ground.
Nothing else will suffice. Pursuing military, diplomatic, and humanitarian channels in concert is the most educated and realistic approach.
I’m proud to say that the experts and leaders of our great nation agree with this almost unanimously and only 12% of our population is sadly misinformed.
