your area. Look on our home page! |
Meet with household members and discuss with
children
the dangers of fire, severe weather, and other emergencies. |
Assemble supplies you might need in an evacuation.
Store them in an easy-to-carry container such as a backpack
or a duffle bag. Include: |
Ask how to prepare for each disaster. |
Discuss how to respond to each disaster
that could occur. |
A supply of water. Store water in
sealed, unbreakable containers. |
Learn your community's evacuation routes. |
Learn how to turn off water, gas and electricity
at main switches. |
A supply of non-perishable packaged or canned
food and a non-electric can opener. |
Learn about emergency plans for your children's
school or day care center. |
Teach children how and when to call 9-1-1. |
A change of clothing, rain gear and sturdy shoes. |

Pick two meeting places; a place near your home
in case of fire and a place outside your neighborhood in case
you cannot return home after a disaster. |
Also, blankets or sleeping bags,
a first aid kit, prescription medications and a battery powered
radio, flashlight and extra batteries.

Keep family records in a water and fire proof

Practice and maintain your plan.
It is important to be sure your family remembers what steps
should be taken if a disaster should occur. Certain preparedness
measures should be practiced on a regular basis. |
